A famous American website listed some of the world's most dangerous runways(跑道).Even experienced pilot may find it difficult to land on these runways. Here are two of them.

Princess Juliana International Airport Runway

Princess Juliana International Airport is in St Maarten. It is one of the busiest airports in the Caribbean. The airport is famous for its runway. While a large plane needs at least 2, 400 meters to land safely, the runway is only about 2, 200 meters long.

What's more, the runway ends right on a beach. This means planes will fly directly over the people on the beach. In fact ,planes fly only 20 to 30 meters above people's heads! A large number of tourists visit the beach every year. They get excited when planes cause strong winds and loud noise on the beach.

The Ice Runway

The Ice Runway is in Antarctica(南極洲). It is made of ice.This has made it the worlds most slippery runway. Landing on the runway is a challenge. The ice will break if a plane is too heavy.So the weight of each plane must be checked very carefully. When the temperature rises, the ice melts. So, there's no runway at all at that time.
