How often do you exercise? A new study found that one third of the kids from 12 to 15 weren’t getting enough physical activity. The results were about 800 kids.
Doctors suggested an hour or more of physical activity every day. According to the , only 1 in 4 of the US kids exercised enough.
Few in the survey met the doctors’ ideas about physical activity that raises the heart rate and makes people become . However, most of those kids said they did less than an hour of exercise the week before. Overall, about 25% they got an hour of that kind of hard exercise every day. Kids reported they usually did most of the activities outside of school gym class---- for boys and running for girls.
The study found that teens were less active than normal-weight girls and boys. Overweight girls were kind of less active than normal-weight girls, levels were similar among overweight and usual-weight boys. The study also said that the obesity rate for children aged 2 to19 17%, or about 12.5 million kids.
“There’s always room for improvement,” said Tala Fakhouri, was the lead writer of the report. She also said the results provided useful information to fitness campaigns such as Let’s Move, which was started by the First Lady Michelle Obama in 2010. To encourage kids to eat right and get in shape, the First Lady schools and held exercise events. She also called on schools to offer regular classes.
Fakhouri suggested kids who got physical education at school may get grades. She said schools could do more to help by not cutting rest and giving kids more time for physical activity.

My best friend and I made our first trip to Ireland less than a year ago. I wasn’t very excited about it at the very beginning. But my uncle wanted me to visit Ireland and offered to pay for my trip. Then I did. All of the words “magical, charming and memorable” don’t even describe what Ireland is. Our favourites were Kilkenny, Cobh and Killarney. We did a self-driver tour.
We stayed in a castle in Dublin for two days, where my ancestors(祖先) came from. The town we thought we might be bored in was Kilkenny, but we loved every minute we were there. There were so many places to explore and the pictures we took were beautiful.
It was so exciting to see the little village of Cobh and know it was the last stop for the Titanic(a famous ship) at that time. We loved the visitor centre there and the little shops. We never got any bad food there. It was so mouth-watering at every stop! And when we stayed in Westmeath, we saw the Trim Castle through the windows and found some scenes from Brave Heart which was filmed there. We were so excited. Again, more beautiful pictures were taken in that tiny town.
We love the country, the people, the food and the magic. We would go back very soon. I was so thankful for my uncle who had given me the chance to be there.
I have no words to adequately describe our trip. Go, explore the small villages, eat and enjoy! I still look at my pictures and can’t believe I was actually there.

We all want to live in good neighborhoods, but not everyone lives in a good neighborhood. How can you build a better community for yourself and your family? There are many things you can do.
Paint your intersection(十字路口). A street intersection is not something you think of as interesting. However, In Portland, people in some neighborhoods have made them really worth stopping for. Some paint, creative people and a bright design are all it takes to bring neighbors together and produce something the whole community can be proud of.
Make a poetry box. The idea is simple, really - create a box with a glass or clear plastic front. Put this box on a post. Write your own poem or print out your favorite classic and display it in the box for all your neighbors to see. You can also set up a drop box and encourage neighbors to write their own poems and drop them in the box. Display the poems from your neighbors as the poems come in.
Set up a tool library. How often do you need a leaf blower? Or a chain saw? And how often do you use that electric cake mixer? To01 libraries have space where neighbors can drop their hardly used tools to share. Check with a local business, community center or church group about space that can house a tool library.
Turn your front yard into your backyard. How often do you meet your neighbors in your backyard? Probably never. Moving your typical(典型的) backyard activities to the front immediately makes you more visible(可見的). You can create front-yard gardens, build community benches and even just barbecue in your front yard. They are all great ways to connect with your community.
With effort, you'll make your neighborhood a much better place.
