When I was in college, I heard about a book titled “Looking Out for Number One”. I never read the book, and I didn’t like it. I think it was because the title_______I hadn’t been taught to be so selfish that I should focus on only me. I thought I needed to help others and, along the way, I would also help myself. Now, I realize I should have at least considered learning more about looking out for number one.
Many years after seeing the book about looking out for number one, I’m realizing number one, me, is the person I should care first. Jeffrey Gitomer asks the question, “Who is the most important person in the world?” Most people answer, “the customer.” He then asks, “If there were only two people left in the world, the customer and you, who would you want to survive (生存)?” Now the answer is me.
It makes sense that if we can’t help ourselves first, we will never be ready to help others. We all need to learn to control our lives and make the best decisions for ourselves. That will put us in the position to help others in the future. But many of us are slow to understand this.
It is said that happiness will bring success, but success doesn’t always bring happiness. We all want to be happy and successful. Some of us can be very happy when our basic needs are met and our family are safe. Others will seek for high levels of success, thinking that will bring happiness. I’m sure we can think of some people who are very successful, according to the world’s standards (標(biāo)準(zhǔn)), but they appear to be unhappy sometimes. This is because they have been so busy working for somebody else’s goals that they haven’t considered their own needs.

3.From the third paragraph, we can learn ________.
A. we should help others instead of ourselves
B. actually few of us understand this idea earlier
C. helping others can help us to control our lives
D. we need to help others make the best decisions
4.Sometimes successful people feel unhappy because ________.
A. they seek for too high levels of success
B. they haven’t worked for their own goals
C. their basic needs are not completely met
D. they think success can’t bring happiness
5.The best title for the passage can be ________.
A. Happiness and Success Come Together
B. Always Helping Others First

Baloo the bear, Leo the Lion and Shere Khan the tiger have the most unusual and unlikely friendship between them. They were saved eight years ago, when they were cubs only two months old.
They were first sent to a rescue(救護(hù))center, where they were raised together. Now they are in an American zoo. Because they came here as a kind of family, the zoo built a large clubhouse so that they could all sleep in it.
Now they have grown up. You can see them playing around like brothers. The three big animals seem to no sense(意識(shí)) of their animal differences.
Baloo and Shere Khan are very close. That is because they rise early, as Leo being a lion likes to spend most the day sleeping. When Leo wakes up the three of them mess around for most of the day before they settle down to some food. It is wonderful to see a giant American Black Bear put his arm around a Bengal tiger and then to see the tiger touch the bear with his nose lightly like a pet cat. You can often see they lie on top of each other for heat and for love.
“They are not wild animals any more. But you must remember who you are dealing with when you are with them,” said one of the zoo keepers.
