   Two tramps (流浪漢) were walking along a quiet road. A sorrylooking dog was going after them. 44 We had a bad day,Joe ,” the first tramp said. “We don't have any money now and we can’t get anything”，the second tramp replied.

   Suddenly the tramps saw a car in front. It came towards them very quickly. Both the tramps moved to one side,but the dog stayed in the middle of the road.

   The driver tried to stop the car,but it was too late. The car hit (撞) the dog and killed (殺死) it. The driver got out of the car and went up to the first tramp.

   “Poor little dog”’ the tramp said

   “I'm really sorry ,” the driver said ,“I tried not to hit your dog but I couldn’t. ” He took out his wallet and gave $ 5 to the first tramp. “Will that be all right?” the driver asked.

   “Yes,sir,thank you,sir ,” the first tramp said.

   The driver got into his car and drove away.

   “Poor little dog ,” the first tramp said and put the money into his pocket.
