【題目】閱讀填空(共2小題)

閱讀下面短文,并根據(jù)所讀內(nèi)容,在文章后第1~10小題的空格里填入一個最恰當(dāng)?shù)膯卧~。注意:每個空格只填1個單詞。

Let’s face it: homework can be almost as frustrating (沮喪) for parents as it is for kids.Getting kids to do their homework can be a challenge, and when they do sit down to study, a lot of other problems can appear.

Doing homework may not be as fun as playing video games or chatting with friends, but it shouldn’t be something that kids hate.Your children’s assignments (任務(wù)) should help them build a skill or learn something new.

You can help by being a homework monitor, stepping in to answer questions or offer encouragement. This gives you a chance to see what they are learning and how well they understand the material. It helps you understand their learning style and shows you care about their education.

Many kids refuse to study by asking why they have to learn things they’ll never use in real life.If your son or daughter shows little interest in their assignments, you can make them seem more important by pointing out ways you use them in daily life.

If parents feel that their kids are overloaded (超負(fù)荷), they can talk about it with the teachers. If you think it takes your child too long to finish homework, try to make a decision whether the problem lies in having too much work or managing time poorly.

If your child complains of boredom while doing homework, give him or her the following suggestions:

Get help from friends: if your children are bored with an assignment, let them call a friend for help or invite a friend over to work on it with them.

Add physical activity: set mini-goals for homework and allow time for relaxing, jumping around, or a snack after each goal is completed. For a kid who can’t sit still, find active ways to study.

Turn the tables: let your children teach you a lesson.Let them give you a test on the things they have just learned.

【題目】A 15-year-old student who invented a flashlight(手電筒) getting power from the holder's body heat is going home today from California with a big prize and a chance to do further research.

Ann Makosinski was the only Canadian among the four winners at Google's international science competition. Thousands of young scientists from around the world took part in the competition.

Winning the science and technology competition was "a surprise". Ann said, "I think it will have a great influence on my future."

Ann thanked her family for encouraging her interest in science and said that her first toy was a box of transistors(晶體管).

Ann's prize includes $ 25,000 and a "once in a-lifetime expericnce" from Google for her Hollow Flashlight, which has no moving parts or batteries.

The idea for the invention came from seeing unwanted batteries and her friend's experience. When Ann visited a friend in the Philippines, she saw the friend couldn't study when it became dark because there was no electricity or light. She saw the need for a flashlight that has no batteries - Hollow Flashlight.

In her project, Ann wrote "I made two flashlights that do not use any batteries or harmful materials. They do not create any noise and will always work. The flashlight needs at least a 5℃ temperature difference between the holder's body and the environment around to produce light."

A video of Ann explaining how she creatcd the flashlight has been watched more than 1.4 million times on the Internet.

Though Ann was successful, she has not made a decision about her career path. Ann hopes that she can find a way to join her love of film and science together.

The four winners were chosen from 15 final competitors from eight countries. The competition attracted thousands of students in 120 countries.

【題目】閱讀理解
It is true that people with better education are usually able to get better paying jobs. In other words, they have more chances to choose a good job while people with little or no education don't. It seems that the purpose of education is to make people get jobs. But not all the people agree with this idea.

Some people may think that a person should spend the best years of his life to get education in order to make more money in the future. This was probably one of the earliest purposes of education. In fact, if education is just a way to make a living, people don't need to spend so much time in school. They can get education for a living in a short time. Subjects like history and geography need not be taught to everyone. And people don't have to learn maths and languages so carefully. So it is clear that education is much more than teaching a man to get a way of living.
So what is education for? Education is well—rounded and it should improve a man in many ways. It is not only to teach him to speak, read and write, but also to develop his creative thinking and other abilities. After that, it is to make him a wise man and thankfully enjoy the achievements of human. Education is to make a man lead a better life. Educated people are expected to be able to listen to good music, read good books, watch plays and most of all, take an interest in the world.
I would agree that making a good living is an important reason for education, but certainly not the most important or the only reason.
(1)People with better education usually __________.
A.have fewer chance to choose a good job
B.have more chances to get a good job
C.make less money than others
D.spend the best years making money
(2)The earliest education was probably to __________.
A.teach a man to think creatively
B.teach people to read good books
C.improve a man in many ways
D.help people make more money
(3)What does the underlined word “well—rounded” in Paragraph 3 mean in Chinese?
A.圓滿的
B.嶄新的
C.全面的
D.公平的
(4)It is expected that educated people will be able to ___________.
A.write good books by themselves
B.learn all the subjects very well
C.take an interest in the world
D.lead a richer life than others
(5)The passage mainly tells us that ____________.
A.making a living is not the only purpose of education.
B.people can get education in a short time.
C.people should study hard to get better paying jobs.
D.all subjects are very important for a way of living.
