【題目】Mike used to be a top student, but he _______ behind since he lost himself in computer games.

A. fell B. has fallen C. was D. has been

【答案】D

【解析】

試題分析:句意:邁克過去是一名尖子生。但是自從他沉迷于電腦游戲后,他落后了。根據(jù)since可知本題應(yīng)該用現(xiàn)在完成時(shí),fall behind落后,是個(gè)瞬間動(dòng)作,當(dāng)句中有since, for等表示時(shí)間段的時(shí)間狀語時(shí),要把瞬間動(dòng)作改為持續(xù)動(dòng)作,所以應(yīng)該用be behind,故選D。

【題目】

The Erie Canal was the first important national waterway built in the US. It crossed New York State(州)from Buffalo on Lake Eric to Albany on the Hudson River. It joined the Great Lakes with the Atlantic Ocean.

Over the canal industrial goods(工業(yè)產(chǎn)品)could flow into the west, and materials could pour into the east. The Erie Canal helped New York develop into the nation's larges city.

The building of the canal was paid for completely by the state of New York. It cost $7,143,789, but it soon gained its price many times over. Between 1825, when the canal was opened, and 1882, when toll charges(過運(yùn)河費(fèi))were stopped, the state collected $121,461,891.

For a hundred years before the Erie Canal was built, people had been talking about a canal to join the Great Lakes and the Atlantic Ocean. The man who planned the Erie Canal and carried the plan through was De Witt Clinton. At that time some people laughingly called it "Clinton's Ditch(溝)". Clinton talked and wrote about the canal and drew up plans for it. He and Governor Morris went to Washington in 1812 to ask for help for the canal, but they were unsuccessful.

Clinton became governor of New York State in 1817, and shortly afterwards, on July 4,1817, broke ground for the canal in Rome of New York State. The first part of the canal was completed in 1820. As the canal grew, towns along its course developed fast. The length of the canal is 363 miles.

【題目】 One morning when I was 11, I explored the town’s abandoned (廢棄的) round grain barn. I found a chained sliding door that was wide enough for me to pass through.

Inside, there was a heavy smell of dead mice in the dark. After my eyes adjusted, I noticed a shaft (通風(fēng)管道) that rose all the way to the top of the barn. On one side was a one-man elevator with a long rope and roller.

I stepped onto the platform, gave the rope a drag and the elevator began sliding up the shaft, but stopped halfway. After a brief panic attack, I noticed there were some holes formed a ladder (階梯). For reasons known only to an 11-year-old, I decided it would be better to go up than down. So, with shaking hands, I began climbing up.

After what seemed like forever, I reached the top of the shaft. I stood up and found nothing of interest. It was just an empty room with a ladder leading up to the roof. I tried my best to climb all the way up but it was very difficult. There was too much heavy dust. When dust was blown, I even couldn’t breathe. I didn’t know how long it took but luckily I climbed up, popped the straw roof and saw a bright blue sky.

I suddenly realized the dust and powder pouring out of the top could draw attention. So when the dust had settled, I climbed down and slipped out of the chained door. I’m not sure if I was more excited about being alive or about not being caught, but I ran all the way back home.
