【1】There was something new in yesterday’s newspaper.
There __________ __________ anything new in yesterday’s newspaper.
【2】I go to the movies once a month.(對劃線部分提問)
___________ ________ do you go to the movies?
【3】I’m not as outgoing as my sister.
My sister is ________ _________ than me.

__________ teachers __________ their students are working hard for a better future.
【1】 was not
【2】 How often
【3】 more outgoing
【4】 come true
【5】 Both and
故這里填was not。
原句not as…as… 同義句中主語變?yōu)榱?/span>My sister,空后有than表示“比”,故這里填比較級more outgoing。
句中使用了句型make sb./sth. do sth.“使……怎么樣”,故這里填動詞原形come true。
【5】這句話的主語是“老師和同學(xué)們”,這兩個空應(yīng)填連詞,將teachers和their students連接起來,考查的是both…and…,表示“……和……兩者都”。故填Both, and。

I am a karate(空手道) player. I still remember my first karate competition. Like other players,
I was very excited about my event. I watched every player's skills so that I could carefully avoid their moves.
Somehow, I got into the semifinals(半決賽). In the semifinals, I fell down and hurt myself. I still didn't give up, so I fought back and got into finals. After all, getting the gold medal was my dream.
In the final competition, there were no supporters on my side, as I was a new face. Instead, the crowd was cheering for my opponent(對手). I could hear only my opponent's name.
I didn't mind the crowd's cheering. I kept one thing in mind: focus, wait and attack. I had confidence in myself, and I knew that no matter how strong my opponent was, I had to give it my best shot and fight well.
When the time was up, I was leading with a 3—0 score. One thing I learned from that event is, no matter how strong your opponent is, don't think you are weak or strong. Just give your best shot, and you will make your way to success.
Win or lose, you will gain important experiences. Learn from every step you take.

People often think of the North Pole (北極) and the South Pole as similar frozen (冰凍的) wastelands. They are both places with very cold temperatures and few people live there. However, the North and South Poles are not much alike as people may imagine.
The North Pole has no land, only thick ice. Temperatures seldom go above 32°F, at which water turns into ice. Most of the time, it stays below zero. In winter temperatures are usually as low as -30°F.
Although conditions were very poor, people tried for many centuries to reach the North Pole. About 100 years ago, two men, Robert Peary and Mathew Henson, were able to get to this environment full of troubles and difficulties. They reached the North Pole on March 8th, 1909. It was really a hard trip for them. There are few things more dangerous than crossing the Arctic (北極圈) on foot. People who stayed there may face many problems: very cold temperatures, sudden storms, and even hunger. Most of the area is uninhabited. Few people can live in such a difficult place.
People might think that with such low temperatures for most of the year, the ice would be thick and hard. However, this is not true in the Arctic. The movement of the ocean water under the ice may often cause many different changes on the surface. Sometimes the ice breaks into two opening lanes of water (水道) called “l(fā)eads”. Anyone who falls into a lead can be frozen to death in a few minutes.

As young students, you have many dreams. These dreams can be very big, such as winning the Nobel Prize; they can also be small, such as becoming one of the best students in your class. Once you find a dream, what do you do with it? Do you ever try to make your dream true?
Andrew Matthews, an Australian writer, tells us that making your dreams real is life’s biggest challenge. You may think you’re not very good at some school subjects, or that It’s important for you to become a writer is difficult for you . Those kinds of ideas stop you from realizing your dream.
In fact, everyone can realize his dream. The first thing you must do is to remember what your dream is. Don’t let it leave your heart. Keep telling yourself what you want every day and then your dream will come true faster. You should know that a big dream is, in fact, made up of many small dreams.
You must also never give up your dream. There will be difficulties on the road to your dreams. But the biggest difficulty comes from yourself. You need to decide what is the most important. (3) You shouldn’t watch TV. You’d better study instead. It will help you to get better exam results.
