On May 23, six pandas left an important panda base (基地) in Wolong, southwest China’s Sichuan Province(四川省), because of damaged (損壞的) shelters and food shortages（短缺）after the May 12 earthquake（地震）, The pandas took trucks(卡車) to Ya’an,a local official（官員） said.

There are about 1,590 pandas living in the wild in China, mostly in Sichuan and the northwestern provinces of Shanxi and Gansu.
