There are now no more than 4, 500 Indian tigers in the wild. The World Wide Fund for the Nature （the WWF）helped the Indian government develop Project Tiger in 1973 to help save the Indian tiger. The Project started with 9 tiger reserves, with a population of 268 tigers. Now there are 27 tiger reserves, with a population of 1498 tigers. The WWF has also helped protect Indian tigers in Bangladesh and Nepal.

    With nearly 3.15 meters from its nose to the tip of its tail, the Siberian tiger is the world’s largest cat. There are only 200 in the world, most of them in Russia.

  Illegal（非法的） killing has increased（增長）greatly in the last seven years because tiger products（產(chǎn)品）can make a lot of money for those hunters. The bones and other body parts are used for traditional medicines.

  Illegal killing and trading（貿(mào)易）are continuing, and tigers are in danger. Governments have made some laws to protect tigers. But there’s still a long way to go
