【題目】–Where’s the medicine? I’ve looked everywhere for it.

-Oh, it’s on the top shelf. Mum put there to make sure little Tom __________ it.

A.wouldn’t reachB.haven’t reachedC.won’t touchD.hadn’t touched

【答案】A

【解析】

句意:藥在哪里?我到處找它。 -- 哦,在柜子頂端,媽媽放在那里確保小Tom不會(huì)拿到。

考查動(dòng)詞時(shí)態(tài)。A.wouldn’t reach過(guò)去將來(lái)時(shí);B.haven’t reached現(xiàn)在完成時(shí);C.won’t touch一般將來(lái)時(shí);Dhadn’t touched過(guò)去完成時(shí)。本句的主句Mum put there to make sure是一般過(guò)去時(shí),可知從句使用過(guò)去的某種時(shí)態(tài);結(jié)合上文“藥在哪里?我到處找它。 -- 哦,在柜子頂端”可知“媽媽過(guò)去放在那里確保小Tom在過(guò)去的將來(lái)的不會(huì)拿到。”故選A。

We all know that recycling rubbish is very important. But sometimes it is not so convenient (方便的) when we can’t find a recycling bin anywhere.

Now a team of middle school students from North Dakota, US has solved that problem by designing(設(shè)計(jì))the Recycling Bin app (應(yīng)用程序).

This app encourages people to recycle. It provides users with a map of local recycling centres, and it allows them to save locations as favourites. Besides, this app also reminds users to recycle.

The group of nine sixth-graders is from STEM Centre Middle School. They came up with the idea as part of a school project for the Verizon Innovative App Challenge. Their school provided professional app training. It held a contest and gave Samsung tablets (三星平板電腦) as prizes.

The contest aims to develop interest in science, technology, engineering and Maths. In this contest, students present an app design that could solve a problem in their school or community. The nine students came up with the idea for the Recycling Bin when they saw a need for more recycling.

“We thought that this would really help a lot of people,” Jaden Hilkemann, 12, told Time For Kids.

They kept their design simple so that anyone could use it. Now the free Recycling Bin app has been put into use in the Google Play app store for Android phones or tablets.

“I was so excited when it showed up at the app store,” Seralyn Blake, 12, said. “A lot of people downloaded the app. It was pretty cool.”

【題目】 According to a new survey, student safety has become a big problem. Now in many big cities of China, many schools start a new lesson: self—protection. Students like this lesson because there are no exams or boring classes. And they can learn how to save lives and know how to stop danger before it really happens.

Lin Li, a teacher from Yantai, gives young students advice on how to deal with danger.

If you are in a traffic accident

If a car hits you, you should remember the car number. If it is a bicycle, try to call your parents before you let the rider go. This is because you don’t know how seriously you are hurt.

If it is raining hard and there is lightning

Don’t stay in high places and stay away from trees.

When there is a fire

Get away as fast as you can. Put wet things on your body and try to find an exit. Do not take the lift.

If someone is drowning

If you can’t swim, don’t get into the water. Cry out for help.

Remember that danger is never as far away as you think. Take care of yourself at all times!

If you are robbed(搶劫)

Keep calm. If you cannot cry for help or run away, give the robber your money. Try to remember what the robber looks like and tell the police later.

【題目】 Did you sleep well last night? Or did you wake up feeling tired? Getting a good night’s sleep requires more than getting into bed and closing your eyes. Understanding your sleep behavior and preparing for a sound sleep can help make sure every night is a good night for sleeping.

“Sleep is a kind of behavior and it is different among people,”explains Dr. Carol Landis, a sleep researcher professor.“The greatest differences happen in the timing (時(shí)間選擇) of sleep and the amount (數(shù)量) of sleep.”Some people function better if they go to sleep early and rise early, while others feel more rested (精力充沛的) if they stay up late and sleep in. The amount of sleep the adults need each night is also different. Some people may be fine with six hours’sleep, while others need up to nine hours’sleep per night.

Landis offers the following advice on practicing falling asleep well:

Avoid coffee and food such as chocolate in the late afternoon and evening.

Finish exercising two hours before going to sleep. Exercise increases body temperatures and makes it more difficult to fall asleep easily.

Don’t sleep in a warm environment. A drop in a person’s body temperature is important at the beginning of deep sleep. People who sleep in a well-heated room may not sleep well.

Catch up on missed sleep when you have the chance. Busy work or busy weekend activities often make it difficult to get as much sleep as we’d like each night. Try taking a 30-minute short sleep during the day before 4 pm or sleeping in on weekends.
