What is bullying?

Bullying is when someone makes you feel bad or hurts you again and again. Bullying can happen at school, out of school and online. Bullying includes:

calling people mean(惡意的)names

laughing at people

telling lies about people

not letting someone play in a group

hitting people.

What is cyberbullying?

Cyberbullying includes:

sending bad messages online

sharing photos online without permission

not letting someone be part of an online group

spreading lies online.

What can you do?

If someone is not kind to you, tell an adult that you know and like. For example, talk to a parent or a teacher.

If you get bad messages, don't reply. You should save them and give them to your teacher, your family, or the police. Ask an adult for help. Don't share anything before you make sure it is true. That will help stop the cyberbullying

Talk to your parents or teacher or an adult if you see bullying or if you are worried about a friend.

Say sorry if you are not kind to someone. You can write a message or talk to the person. And always remember: think about how to be kind in the future.

【題目】 While he was playing with his toy car, Tom found his mother crying. He ran to her and wiped the tears on her face with his little dirty hands, saying, “I won’t play with the toy any more and I’ll be a good boy.”

After a while, he asked his mom, “Why are you crying?” “Because I am a mother, boy,” she told him.

“I don’t understand,” he said. His mom took him in her arms and said, “You will never.”

Later, the little boy asked his father about it. “All mothers cry for no reason,” answered his father.

The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why mothers cry. One day while he was reading a story, he happened to find the answer. In the story, a lovely girl asked a granny, “Granny, why do mothers cry so easily?”

Granny said, “You see, girl, mothers are born to be special. Mothers’ shoulders are strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet soft enough to give comfort. Their hearts are kind enough to stand the misunderstanding which comes from their children. Mothers take care of their families without saying anything. They love their children, even when their children hurt them badly. This kind of great love makes a child who made mistakes feel better, and it helps mothers share a teenager’s worries and fears. Mothers have the ability to know others’ feelings. Only mothers can use tears whenever it is needed.”

1When did Tom find out the reason why his mother cried one day?

A.After he asked his father about this question.B.After he grew up as a father.

【題目】 School backpacks have been a hot topic in China recently. Some Chinese parents buy hardcover school backpacks from Japan, although they can be as expensive as 5,000 yuan, according to Chinese newspaper Urban Express. These backpacks are popular because the hard cover helps hold books in place. This can help kids keep their balance and protect their spines(脊柱). But it turns out that the bags can barely fit in the students’ desks.

A good backpack is important for children’s health. “It can relieve(減輕) pressure from the shoulders.” says Dr Rob Danoff from the US. He also says students need a backpack that’s made for the child’s size. Cushioned(加墊的)backs and shoulders straps(帶子) will help them avoid pain.

However, the biggest problem for school backpacks is that they are too heavy, noted Hou Weiguang, a doctor in Chengdu. In China, students have too many textbooks and exercise books. The weight makes many kids suffer from side-bending(側彎的) spines, Hou said. He suggests that a backpack should be no more than 15 percent of a child’s body weight to avoid pain or injury. That means if a student weighs 50 kg, the backpack should be less than 7.5kg.

Parents need to make sure their kids only carry what they need. Schools and governments need to help too, added Zheng Yongshun, an education official from Hong Kong. He said schools should offer lockers(儲物柜) space and shared books so kids can carry fewer books.

1Why are hardcover school backpacks popular?

A.Because they are made in Japan.B.Because they are quite expensive.

C.Because they help protect kids’ spines.D.Because they can perfectly fit into desks.

2According to Paragraph2, good backpacks should ________ .

A.have cushioned backsB.put pressure on shoulders

C.be smarter than childrenD.have shorter shoulder straps.

3According to Hou, how heavy should a backpack be?

A.Less than 15 percent of a child’s body weight.

B.No more than 50 percent of a child’s body weight

C.No more than 50 kg.

D.Less than 7.5kg

4The last paragraph is written to offer tips on ________ .

A.how to choose good backpacksB.how to reduce the weight of backpacks

C.how to encourage students to share booksD.how to design lockers for students
