When someone laughs at you, it is called teasing.
Many people are teased. Sometimes your friends tease you just for fun. You can laugh at it and forget about it. But many times the teasing can be harmful. It can make you feel sad. It is harmful when teasing makes you hate yourself.
So, it is important to learn how to deal with teasing. Here are some ways.
Self-talk. Ask yourself, “What is more important --- what they say about me or who I really am?” Of course, who you are is more important! You need to believe in yourself. When you start talking to yourself this way, you will feel more confident.
Ignore(忽視). If you become angry, then the teasers will tease you more. So, simply ignore them. When you don’t 1 respond to them, they may stop teasing you.
Turn it into praise. You can turn negative teasing into positive praise. If someone teases you about your hair, you can say, “Thank you for noticing my hair.”
Agree. 2 You can agree with the facts because facts are the truth. If someone teases you by saying, “You have curly(卷毛的) hair”, then you can say, “Yes, I have curly hair.” Always remember to smile when you reply this way.
Laugh. You can simply laugh when someone teases you instead of feeling sad. The teasers may be surprised to see you laugh. They might even stop teasing after some time.
Teasing is never a good thing to do. You should not tease others. But when others tease you, you have to learn to deal with it well. You should also always remember that what teasers say when they tease you is not what is true about you.

She was returning from teaching out in a small community . It was a moonless night, and a heavy snow was falling.
She remembered back to when she had first started teaching out in small communities. In those days she had always picked up hitchhikers (搭便車者), until the day her sister told her of a friend who had been shot (中槍) in the head by a hitchhiker, all because she had stopped out of kindness to help him during a storm.
Her family didn’t become concerned (關(guān)心的) about her safety over the hitchhikers until the family heard the promise: “No more hitchhikers!” The snow that night was making her think back to this.
Then she saw a man waving. She slowed down for him, but now as he ran toward the car in the dark she shook with fear. Yet she thought that if he was truly in need she couldn’t leave him here in this storm.
The stranger explained that his car was dead, and she told him to get in. They drove for an hour into the next city and she took him to a telephone booth (公用電話亭). She waited until he had made a call. When he reported back to her that a family member would soon come for him, she wished him well and left.
Tears fell on her cheeks as she drove away. She felt as though she had been holding her breath for an hour. “I hope they’ll understand why I had to break my promise,” she thought.
1.What can we learn about the woman?
A. She was a taxi driver.
B. She used to be a hitchhiker.
C. She taught in small communities.
D. She seldom picked up strangers.
2.What made her family worried about her safety?
A. She had been hurt by a hitchhiker.
B. Her sister’s friend was killed by a hitchhiker.

Carrots are grown on farms and in small family gardens all over the world. They are easy to plant and harvest ( 收獲 ). They also have a good taste.
When people think about carrots, a picture of a long, thin, orange-coloured vegetable usually comes into their minds. But carrots come in many different sizes and shapes. And not all carrots are orange.
Carrots should be grown in sandy soil that does not hold water for a long time. The earth also should not be too hard. To prepare your carrot garden, dig up the earth and turn it over (翻土).
Weather, soil, condition and time affect the taste of carrots. Warm days and cool nights are the best time to grow great delicious carrots.
The best way to decide if a carrot is ready to be harvested is by its colour. Usually, the brighter the colour is, the better the taste is.
Most people do not know that carrots can be grown during the winter months. If the winter is not cold enough to freeze the ground, you can grow and harvest carrots the same way as you do during the summer months.
Carrots are prepared and eaten in many different ways. They are cut into thin pieces and cooked with other vegetables or meat. Or, they are washed, and eaten just as they come out of the ground.
