Do you think sitting and studying all the time will improve your grades? Think again. Getting some exercise may help, too.

New research with older people suggests that taking regular (規(guī)律的)walks helps them pay attention(注意)better than if they didn’t exercise.

Previous research had shown that mice learn, remember, and pay attention better after a few weeks of working out on a running wheel. Mice that exercise have greater blood(血)flow to the brain than those who don’t. Their brain cells also make more connections(聯(lián)系)•

Neuroscientists (神經(jīng)系統(tǒng)科學(xué)家)from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign wanted to find out if the same thing is true for people. First, they measured the physical fitness of 41 adults, ages 58 to 77,after each person walked 1 mile. Then, those people looked at arrows(箭)on a computer screen and had to use computer keys to show which way one particular arrow was pointing.

Adults who were physically fit were faster at the arrow task, and their answers

were just as right as the less-fit persons, the researchers found. The fitter persons also had more blood flow to a part of their brain. So, even going for a walk every 2 or 3 days for just 10 to 45 minutes can help. That should be good news for your grandparents. The effects of exercising on the brains of younger people haven’t been studied yet. Still, it can’t hurt to take some breaks and go for a walk or run around with your friends. You might even do better in school.

There are three different kinds of friends in our life. I classify(分類)them according to how well I know them and how well they know me.

The first type of friend is just an acquaintance. This means that you only know their names. You might not even remember what they look like if you go away for a short vacation. You don’t miss them when they are elsewhere. It is also this type of friend who gives you the most amount of aggravation(惱怒).You would not normally tell an acquaintance when he or she is doing something that makes you feel angry, such as tapping the fingers on a table or shouting loudly. I call them “pest friends”.

The second kind of friend is a “guest friend”. They are just social partners. You meet them at a certain location and at the end of the meeting you go your way and they go theirs. You don’t talk too often with this type of friend, and you don’t share each other’s secrets.

Lastly, we have “best friends”. This sort of friend is there when you need them. They know you as a person and they are there through thick and thin.. Best friends are the ones that you can lean and depend on no matter what happens. If you need a listening ear, they will be the one to lend support.

Friends come in all different shapes and sizes. Every friend has an impact on our life. 根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,回答下列問題。

36. What are the three kinds of friends in the passage?

37. Will you tell him or her when a friend of the first type acts in an annoying way?

38. What is a guest friend?

39. What are best friends?

40. What is this passage mainly about?
