He was a journalist and a political critic (政治評論家). But to most people, he is the most influential martial arts novelist in the Chinese-speaking world.

Louis Cha Leung-yung, better known by his pen name Jin Yong, passed away at the age of 94 on Oct, 30th 2018 in Hong Kong.

During his lifetime, Jin Yong wrote 15 martial arts(武俠)novels.Over 300 million copies of his books have been sold around the world. He also created some of the most well-known characters in the history of Chinese literature, including Guo Jing, Wei Xiaobao and Linghu Chong.

Jin Yong was not the first person to write about the martial arts world known as jianghu, but no one can deny (否認(rèn))that he has written some of its best stories. His works were not only a joy for people to read, but also helped to shape Chinese people's spirits and values in recent decades (十年). Jin Yong once said, “Wuxia(martial arts novels)is not so much about Wu(kung fu), but mainly about xia, a combination(組合)of courage, justice and self-sacrifice (自我犧牲).”

These values have been passed on to generations of Chinese through his books, as well as a large number of movies and TV shows that have been adapted from his novels.

“Jin Yong turns novels into an encyclopedia(百科全書)of Chinese history, medicine, geography, mathematics. .”Boston University professor Petrus Liu told NPR.

Jin Yong once said that he hoped people would still read his books even 100 or 200 years after his death. We can say as long as the noble (高尚的) qualities that are mentioned in his stories never die out, neither will his great works themselves.

Los Angeles is known as a driving town. As the Missing Persons’ song goes, “Nobody walks in L.A.” In the city, people are so busy driving to work. Even for the usual shopping, it’s hard to see people walking in the street.

Chuck McCarthy wants to change it! The actor gave up the job of earning money. And he has a new special job now—“people walker”. The idea for the business came when he wanted to make some more money. “I thought about walking dogs at first, but I didn’t want to pick up dog poop(糞便). That’s less interesting.” Many customers need the special service because they are lonely, or they enjoy the feeling of being safe. “My words are full of friendship and warmth, but I can tell you that they are conversations, not one-sided monologue(獨白).”

Just walking and talking and knowing that someone is listening can be helpful for most people. They were very pleased with McCarthy’s job because he listened to them. He walks with others for $7 per mile (around 50 yuan per kilometer).

McCarthy is happy to lend his ear to the people of L.A. and listen to what they have to say. He now has his own company that offers this walking service. He has about 35 walkers working for him. Would you like to try this service?

根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,判斷下列句子正誤。正確的用“A”表示,不正確的用“B”表示。

1.Chuck McCarthy used to be an actor.

2.Many customers need Chuck McCarthy’s special service because they are lonely.

3.Chuck McCarthy can get 7 dollars for walking every five miles with his customers.

4.Chuck McCarthy communicates with others while walking.

5.Chuck McCarthy opens a company serving about 35 customers.
