There are many inventions that have caused great changes in the world. Here's a short introduction. For example, digital camera was invented by Steven_J.__Sasson_in_1975,_and_it's_used_for_taking_photos._Telephone_was_invented_by_Alexander_Bell_in_1876._It's_used_for_communication._As_for_the_radio,_it_was_invented_by_Guglielmo_Marconi_in_1895._It's_used_for_listening_to_news_and_music._These_inventions_are_so_important_and_great._They_either_help_us_in_our_life_or_bring_us_pleasure._So_we_should_work_hard_and_try_to_invent_more_useful_things.
These inventions are so important and great. They either help us in our life or bring us pleasure. So we should work hard and try to invent more useful things.

One day,I saw some children trying to catch butterflies. This made me think of my own childhood.
When I was a boy of 12 in South Carolina,we lived near a forest, and every evening mockingbirds(知更鳥) would come to the trees and sing.I was so interested in watching birds.I planned to catch a bird and keep her in a cage so that I could hear her sing at any time.
I finally caught one.On the second day,the bird's mother flew to the cage with food in her mouth. The baby ate everything her mother brought her.I was glad to see this. The following morning when I went to see my mockingbird,I was surprised to find she was dead in the cage! How sad I was!
When Arthur Wayne,a famous ornithologist(鳥類學(xué)家),visited my father,he heard my crying and told me,“If a mother mockingbird finds her young baby in a cage, she will bring poisonous(有毒的) food to the baby. She thinks that it is better for her child to die than to live in a cage.”

Twelve-year-old Leonardo was born in a poor family in Peru. He knew how to read but he had never seen a book in his life. So he asked the new priest (牧師) in his village to give him one. But there was no electricity. So Leonardo borrowed candles from the church and sat up all night reading it.
This made John Medcalf, the priest, really moved (感動(dòng)的). He also realized that people would love to read if given a chance. But he knew how difficult it was for Leonardo and those in his village to get books. And yet, no one can be taught to read and write without books. To make people in a poor area grow to love books, they have to be with them. So he thought the only way was to bring books to people.
But how could this be done? Mobile libraries or car libraries would be too expensive and difficult to continue in the hilly (多丘陵的) land of Peru. So what other methods could be used?
He got a new idea from the barefoot (赤腳) doctors of China. And that was how the barefoot librarians (圖書管理員) first appeared in the villages of northern Peru, almost thirty years ago.
At first, they were teachers of the village schools which these faraway libraries belonged to. But the teachers were not very interested in the job because it meant a lot of hard work. So, the elders in the village took on the job themselves.
