【題目】As soon as you ________ the truth, please ________ me immediately.

A.know; tellB.will know; tellC.knew; toldD.know; to tell

【答案】A

【解析】

句意:你一知道真相,就立即告訴我。

考查動詞時態(tài)辨析。knowtell動詞原形;will know一般將來時;knewtold一般過去時;to tell動詞不定式。 故選A。

【題目】 One day Madison's teacher found her sitting alone at lunch, looking sad and upset. She could hardly eat the butter sandwich that she usually couldn't wait to eat. "What's the matter, Madison?" the teacher asked. Later that afternoon, Trey was standing alone by the basketball court after school. Trey's mom asked him why he didn't go to play with Zack and Steve, who were shooting hoops. He told his mom that he just didn't feel like it, so they walked home.

But the truth was that Trey and Madison were facing the same problem: They both felt left out, and their feelings were hurt, they felt lonely.

Madison was so sad that he didn't want to eat, and Trey was so mad that when he got home he slammed his bedroom door. The kids who had been their friends before weren't their friends all that time.

What can you do if you're feeling lonely? Let's read some kids' advice on how to deal with loneliness.

"Take something to school and if someone asks to play with you, say yes. They might ask you to play with them next time." (Caleb)

"Listen to music or learn to play an instrument." (Rizwan)

"Help mom or Dad to do jobs. You'll have someone to talk to and you'll learn how to do things when you grow up" (Natalia)

【題目】 Science Night

It’s almost time for Science Night.

I need a partner. Who should I ask?

I have three friends who all want to help.

How can I choose just one for the task?

My best friend Jule is fun to be around.

But she’s as chatty as a bird.

When she start to talk-just watch out!

I can’t get in a single word.

Still, that might work for Science Night;

She’d show our project to the crowd.

Jule’s voice would boom out like a drum.

I wouldn’t mind if she were extra loud!

And then there’s Dan, who’s really shy

But wise as an owl—he’s so smart?

He’d help with the thinking for the job.

He wouldn’t talk, but he’d do his part.

But what about Shel, who’s good at art?

He paints and draws and sculpts so well.

Our project would look great no doubt!

I’m sure I should be asking Shel.

How can I choose just one from three?

I need them all! I’m feeling sick.

I’m as dizzy as a spinning top.

When trying to choose. I just can’t pick!

But wait—why not ask them all to help?

A group of four is better than one.

I’d love to work with all my friends.

In such a group, we’d have such fun!

The work could be shared by four of us.

Be me and Shel and Dan and Jule.

We’d fit together like puzzle pieces.

And take the grand prize in the school!

1The speaker compares Jule’s voice to a drum to show _________.

A.how loud her voice isB.that she likes to play drums

2What does the speaker learn in this poem?

【題目】 “If you don't behave, I'll call the police” is a lie that parents might use to get their young children to behave. A new psychological(心理學(xué)的) study led by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore suggests that it is connected with harmful effects when the children become adults.

The research team asked 379 Singaporean young adults whether their parents lied to them when they were children, how much they lie to their parents as adults, and how well they respond(響應(yīng)) adulthood challenges.

The first questionnaire asked these young adults to recall if their parents told them lies about eating, leaving or staying, spending money and so on. Some examples of such lies are “If you don't come with me now, I will leave you here by yourself” and “I don’t bring money with me today, we can come back another day”. The second questionnaire included questions that could show how often they lie to their parents as adults. Lastly, these young adults filled in two other questionnaires that asked them about their psychosocial problems and tendency (趨勢) to behave selfishly and impulsively(沖動地).

Adults who reported being lied to more as children were more likely to report lying to their parents in their adulthood. They also said they faced greater difficulty in meeting psychological and social challenges.

Lead author Setoh Peipei from NTU Singapore's School of Social Sciences said, “Parenting by lying

can seem to save time, especially when the real reasons behind why parents want children to do something are difficult to explain. When parents tell children that ‘honesty is the best policy’, but display dishonesty by lying, such behavior can send negative (消極的) messages to their children. Parents' dishonesty may finally erode trust and encourage dishonesty in children.”

“Our research suggests that parenting by lying is a practice that has negative influence on children when they grow up. Parents should be aware of these possible risks and consider other ways to replace lying, such as knowing children's feelings, giving information so children know what to expect, offering choices and solving problems together, to encourage children to have good behavior, ”said lead author Setoh Peipe.

But the study has its limitations. Some limitations of the study include depending on what young adults report about their parents' lying. “Future research can explore using many informants(提供信息的人), such as parents, to report on the same thing.” suggested Setoh.

1What did the research team do during the study?

A.They turned to 379 Singaporean children.

B.They looked for questionnaires on the Internet.

C.They collected answers to some sets of questions.

D.They asked the young adults parents for information.

2What does the underlined word “erode” in Paragraph 5 mean?

A.建立B.增進(jìn)C.毀壞D.恢復(fù)

3Which of the following might Setoh Peipei agree with?

A.Parents can sometimes tell harmless lies to their kids.

B.Parents had better explain to their kids why they’ve lied.

C.Parents who like lying are more likely to behave selfishly.

D.Parents should use positive ways instead of lying during parenting.

4What is the main idea of the text?

A.Parents' lying to children can influence them negatively.

B.Parents lie to children to save themselves some trouble.

C.Children's behavior can be affected by their parents.

D.Children may lie more if their parents often lie.
