During their lives, many people experience difficulties and struggle (努力) to do something. When I lived in China, it was a hard struggle for me to learn Chinese and get used to Chinese customs. The first day I went to school, I didn’t understand what my teachers and my classmates said. I just sat in my seat without doing anything, but when I went back home, I cried and told my mom that Later, however, I decided I had to study Chinese very hard, but it was very difficult to learn the language. Every day at school, I tried to talk to the Chinese students and make friends with them. When school was over, I studied Chinese at home by watching Chinese TV programs. That turned out to be a very good way to improve my Chinese. Little by little, I began to speak Chinese in school and I began to make many friends. Finally, I got a very high grade in the Chinese exam and naturally I became used to Chinese customs. Now, I like to talk with Chinese people and I like Chinese food too. The experience of struggling to learn Chinese in China was unforgettable, and I’ll never forget the time when I learned so much.

If you go to a fast food restaurant, you will probably see a lot of teenagers. Today, many teenagers are overweight, and some of this is because of their bad eating habits. Most teenagers love food with a lot of fat, oil, salt and sugar. People often call this kind of food “junk food”.
But bad eating habits go beyond fast food. We find many teenagers eat unhealthily. Some don’t have breakfast before they go to school. During the day, some don’t have a proper meal for lunch. In a recent survey conducted among 2,000 students at one school, scientists found that over two-thirds of the students didn't follow a healthy diet. They didn’t like vegetables, and many of them didn’t like to eat fruits. They preferred to eat food with a lot of salt, sugar or fat.
Parents today also worry about their children’s diet. Some doctors give the following advice:
Teenagers shouldn’t eat too much junk food.
Teenagers shouldn’t eat food with too much salt. Salt can cause high blood pressure in the future.
Teenagers should eat food with less fat, oil and sugar.
Teenagers need to eat some fruits and vegetables every day. Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins and have little fat.
Teenagers need to drink more milk. Milk will help their bones grow.

科目:初中英語 來源:2014-2015學(xué)年湖北孝感市孝南區(qū)三校聯(lián)考九年級(jí)上第四次月考英語試卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解
If you do not use your arms or your legs for some time, they will become weak. When you start using them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows that. Yet many people do not seem to know that memory works in the same way.
When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough chance to become strong.
If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we know that it is his own fault. But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents may be blamed, and few of us know that it is just his own fault. Have you ever found that some people can't read or write but usually they have better memories? This is because they cannot read or write but they still have to remember things. They have to remember days, names, songs and stories, so their memory has been exercised.
So if you want to have a good memory, learn from the people: practice remembering things in a way as other people do.
1.Someone can't have a good memory if __________.
A. he can't read or write
B. he doesn't use his memory

3. Which of the following is TRUE?
A. Your memory works in different way as your arms or legs.
B. Your memory becomes weak if you do not give it enough chance for practice.
C. Don't learn how to read and write if you want to have a better memory.
D. A good memory comes from one’s parents.
4. Few people know that it is ________ if a friend has a poor memory.
A. his own fault
B. his parents' fault
C. his teachers' fault
D. nobody's fault
5.In the passage, the writer wants to tell us to practice _________.
