Children should be allowed to get angry. I remember many years ago, when I was visiting my sister in Australia, and I told my oldest son that he wasn’t allowed to do something he really wanted to do. He thought about it for a minute and said, “Mom, I’m very angry with you.” I replied, “That’s OK, darling, it’s what you do with your anger.” I then asked him if he wanted to talk to me about it but he was too angry to talk to me. Then he stormed off(憤然離開).

My sister looked at me surprisingly. Now she has a son the same age as mine and she said angrily, “How can you allow your child to be angry with you? If my son learns that from you, I will never forgive you.”

Then it was hard for me to stay with her, I ended up leaving earlier. Why shouldn’t my son have the right(權(quán)利) to tell me when I have made him angry? If he can’t tell me then how can he tell others in his life?

Children need to be able to express how they feel. We need to teach them ways to do this in a right way instead of saying nothing. I want them to tell me. Bottling up anger is not healthy for anyone and usually makes things worse.

A. Because her sister was angry with her and she felt it hard to stay there.

B. Because she had a meeting later.

C. Because her son was angry with her and left.

D. Because her sister asked her to leave.

4.The underlined words “Bottling up” means __________ in Chinese.

A.瓶子 B.裝滿瓶子

C.強忍著不說 D.打碎瓶子

5.What’s TRUE according to the passage?

Computers can help many workers. They can also help thieves.

There was one thief who worked in a bank of the United States. He paid for everything he needed by check. Then he told the computer not to take any money from his account for the checks he wrote. The bank’s computer did what he said. And it did not take any money from his bank account. One day the computer broke down. People had to do the computer’s work. They soon found out what was happening.

Another thief, who worked for a bank saw customers( 顧客)filling in deposit forms (存款單). Many of these people did not know their account numbers, so they wrote only their names on the forms. It did not look at the customers’ names. It paid the money on these deposit forms into the thief’s account.

So many of us expect everything we do to be successful. We look forward to success to show us our value or to be the top of the group wherever we are. How many times in our schooling did we hope for a high mark? We want it and then feel like a failure when we don’t achieve what we want. Even when we succeed we still pass that and go onto the next success and then the next. We are not often taught how to face failures.

For me, failure taught me more than success did. Success is of the moment and temporary(暫時的)but failure means we have ever done. It makes me stop and think. It opened my eyes and brain to different possibilities. Failure is just a choice in redoing not in giving up. Experiencing failure,I looked deeper and further.

I have a grandson who plays hockey(曲棍球) and as all players do,he went through a slump. So I saw he was unhappy with himself. Then I said to him, “Why don’t you think of it differently rather than being unhappy?” And I asked, “Scoring is your goal, right?” He answered,“Of course.” “Why aren’t you scoring now? Do you need a readjustment(重新調(diào)整)?”All of a sudden he calmed down--he was thinking of what I had just said. So in the next game I saw him trying different things to do better. Later he started scoring. Now when something is wrong, he takes the time to think it over rather than just keeping the “failure” mode(方式).

Look at failure differently. Failure is what gives us power to try a different way of doing things.

It teaches us to rethink, redo, and then success will come about. Don’t give up but learn to use a different way.

A. He grew up and learned more skills.

B. He thought and tried in a different way.

C. He used the skill his grandma taught him.

D. He didn’t make a change and kept the “failure” mode.

5.Which is the best title for the text?

A. Expect Success. B. Face Failures Differently.

C. My Grandson and I. D. Keep Failure Mode.
