Can dogs and cats get along well in the same home? People are thinking about getting a dog for their cat as a friend, but they are worried about that the dog and the cat will fight. A recent research has found that if the cat is taken back home before the dog, and if they are introduced when they are still youngless than 6 months for cats, a year for dogs, it is possible that the two pets will get along swimmingly. In two-thirds of the homes cats and dogs have a good relationship(關系).

However, there was something unfriendly between the cat and dog in 25% of the homes, while aggression(侵略, 好斗)and fighting were found in 10% of the homes. One reason for this is probably that some of their body languages are just different. For example, when a cat turns its head away, it means aggression. while a dog doing the same means submission(順從).

In homes with cats and dogs living in peace, researchers found a surprising behavior(行為). They are learning how to talk each other’s language. It is a surprise that cats can learn how to talk "Dog", and dogs can learn how to talk"Cat".

The interesting thing is that both cats and dogs seem to become smarter. They can learn to read each other's body languages, suggesting that the two may have more in common(共同的)than was expected(預料). If they understand each other's body language very well, cats and dogs can play together, and enjoy sleeping together on the sofa.

The importance of this research on cats and dogs may go beyond(超過)pets—to people who don't get along well, including neighbours, workmates at work, and even countries. If cats and dogs can learn to get along, surely people have a good chance.

根據(jù)下文的“In two-thirds of the homes cats and dogs have a good relationship在三分之二的家庭中,貓和狗的關系很好”,可知,如果先收養(yǎng)貓并且貓不到6個,狗不到一年,他們就能順利的和平相處。

根據(jù)第二段的“One reason for this is probably that some of their body languages are just different.”,可知,有些貓和狗可能會打架的原因之一可能是他們的一些肢體語言不同,也就是因為誤解。

根據(jù)第三段的“They are learning how to talk each other’s language. It is a surprise that cats can learn how to talk "Dog", and dogs can learn how to talk"Cat".”,可知,他們正在學習如何說彼此的語言,令人驚訝的是,貓能學會說“狗”,狗能學會說“貓”。

根據(jù)第四段的“They can learn to read each other's body languages, suggesting that the two may have more in common(共同的)than was expected(預料)”,可知,他們可以學會讀懂對方的肢體語言,這表明兩種動物的共同點可能比我們預期的要多,也就是他們的差別比我們認為的要更小一些。

故選A。

What do you see when you look at abstract(抽象) art? Does it make sense to you? Does it look like anything? Is it supposed to?

Abstract art became popular in the early 20th century. Artists did not want to paint, draw, or sculpt things exactly(確切地) like they looked. They didn't want their art to be realistic. They were more interested in basic shapes and colours.

Picasso is probably the most famous of these artists. He painted and drew in many, many styles. Sometimes he used a lot of blue colours (his "blue period"). Later, he used more red and pink colours (his "rose period"). Many of his other paintings are called "cubist(立體畫派)" because they are made of painted squares.

After a long time, Picasso's paintings became more and more abstract. He painted people and things using strange shapes. His work was so original; many of his fellow artists didn't understand it.

Kandinsky, another famous artist, used lines, shapes, and patterns to paint his subjects. His paintings also used strong colours to express feelings.

Other artists like the surrealists(超現(xiàn)實主義者), were interested in subconscious(潛意識). Painters like Breton and Magritte used many symbol in their work. The meaning or subject of their work wasn't always clear. Dali, another surrealist artist, painted pictures that look like dreams.

There are still many abstract artists around the world. That's the way many artists prefer. They want each person to look at art and find their own meaning in it.

1Which would be most like abstract art?

A.A painting of a house.

B.A sculpture of a car.

C.A drawing of two people in a coffee house.

A.It became more abstract.

B.It became less original.

C.He went from using red colours to using blue colours.

D.He only painted with coloured squares.

3How did Kandinsky express feelings?

A.By using colours and shapes.

B.By painting realistic people.

C.By painting with a lot of symbols.

D.By painting in red and pink colours.

4Who is probably the most famous abstract artist?

A.Breton.B.Dali.C.Picasso.D.Magritte.

5Which of the following is NOT true?

A.Picasso painted in many different styles.

B.Dali was interested in dreams.

C.Abstract artists feel each work of art only has one meaning.

D.Magritte's art was full of symbols.
