Respect your teachers.
First of all, students should respect the teachers. You should      your teachers in the classes. That means to give your respect to him, to stand from your chairs when the teacher enters the classroom, etc. Attend any class attentively. In class of a certain subject or a teacher you don’t like very much, if it is totally anarchy(無政府狀態(tài)), how can we talk about respect?
Play by the     .
If your teacher wants you to take notes in class, do it. If she tells you to sharpen your pencils only before class starts, listen to her. If she     late homework, do yours on time. Sometimes classroom rules seem strict or even silly, but most teachers know what’s necessary to make things run well and what it takes to let the learning begin. And the better the learning environment, the      you will be!
Expect him/her to like you.
Teachers are teachers because they like kids. Given the chance, most teachers want to be your    , too. Respect your teacher, but do not be afraid of him/her. He/ she wants you to have a great school year just as much as you want to have one!
Put first things first.
Friends are a fun part of school. But they are not the most important part. When your teacher is teaching, give him/her full attention,      when it’s hard to do. Class will end and the ten-minute break will come soon enough, and that’s the time for playing with your friends

Usually, students are not encouraged to run or jump around in the corridor (走廊). However, students in a British grammar school really enjoy running on the corridor tiles (瓷磚) and their teachers even encourage them to do that.
Why? It is because the corridor was built with special kinetic (動(dòng)能的) tiles. When students jump on the tiles, electricity will be generated ( 產(chǎn)生). After one year, the electricity generated from the tiles can fully charge 853 mobile phones or power(供電) an electric car to drive seven miles. It’s amazing, isn’t it?
The corridor tiles are really a brilliant invention. Students can not only play on the corridor, but also help power the lights in their school corridors and other devices ( 設(shè)備) in their classrooms. Besides, this is a good way to teach students to be creative. They will be inspired to be scientists, inventors and engineers in the future to find clean energy for all humans.
The inventor of the magic corridor tiles is Laurence Kemball-Cook. He was once a student in this school. Now, he is CEO of his own company. The corridor tiles are not Laurence’s only invention. He has also invented a special dance floor, which can be used at music festivals. It allows dancers to charge their mobile phones while they are dancing on the dance floor.

ARE you creative, shy, outgoing? Our personalities reveal a lot about who we are. But what’s surprising is that our personality can also say something about our health. That’s according to researchers at Duke University, US.
During an experiment on 1,000 people, scientists assessed (評(píng)定) their personalities in two ways: by asking someone they knew, such as a family member or friend; then by asking someone they had just met, such as a nurse. The study found that those who were careful at age 26 were in better health after 12 years.?
Being careful means that people tend to have a lot of self-control, and are less likely to smoke, the scientists said. Careful people are also more likely to have an active lifestyle and healthy diet.
From those who were least careful, 45 percent developed health problems by the age of 38. Such health issues included gum disease and high blood pressure (高血壓). To compare, only 18 percent of careful people went on to develop health problems.
Another positive personality was called “openness to experience”, meaning curious and imaginative. People who have more of this personality have higher IQ scores. So they’d be more likely to know how to find medical help to prevent disease.
According to the report, if doctors assessed our personalities, it could help doctors to find which young adults need advice on how to live a healthy lifestyle. What’s surprising is that stress didn’t play a big part on a person’s health. Even though stress and anxiety (焦慮) are usually linked to bad health.
But can a doctor who knows our personality really improve our health? Or should doctors be kept away from knowing something so personal?
小題1:Which personality type may be better for our health, according to the research?

A.a(chǎn)re too shy to talk to strangers
B.love to ask the doctor for advice
C.a(chǎn)re likely to have a healthy lifestyle
D.may have high blood pressure when they’re older
小題3:Where can you probably read the article?
A.Newspaper. B.Science fiction book.
C.Research paper.D.Travel guide.
小題4:What is the main idea of the article?
A.People can change their personality type.

After shaking the east coast of Honshu, Japan on March 11, the earthquake has caused more than 10, 000 deaths and 17, 000 people missing. In downtown of Tokyo, buildings shook and frightened citizen blocked out all the streets and roads. The tsunami(颶風(fēng))afterwards, which caused more deaths and injury, made Japanese people unable to cheer up. “Now that our neighbors are in trouble,” the Foreign Ministry spokesman said, “we are in our turn to give a hand. Our rescue team has already got there in time to help.” The terrible earthquake also caused a big fire breaking out at the Fukushima nuclear power plant(福島核電站), leading to a radiation leaking(泄漏).
50 nuclear workers, facing radiation and fire, became the only people remaining at the Fukushima nuclear power plant on Tuesday — and perhaps Japan’s last chance of preventing a broader nuclear danger. Fishing is a popular activity and every fisherman knows the rule: Keep the big ones, throw the smaller ones back. The idea behind Lt is simple - the larger fish are probably older. If you keep the smaller ones, they won’t be able to reproduce, and the fish population is in danger.
But fishing out the largest fish from a population has an unwanted effect: Over time, fewer adult fish get really big. If only the smaller fish reproduce(繁殖), then future generations become smaller. This is an example of evolution(進(jìn)化) in action.
One scientist, Dr David Conover has spent the last decade studying the effects of the “keep the big ones” rule and if they can be reversed(顛倒).
To set up his experiment, Conover and his team caught hundreds of silverside fish and divided them into six groups. For two groups, Conover followed the “keep the large ones” rule and took out the biggest fish. For two other groups, he removed only the small fish.
For the last two groups, he removed fish at random (隨意的).
After five years, he measured the fish in each group. In the two groups where the largest fish were regularly removed, the average fish size was smaller than the average size in the other groups. Here was evolution in action: If only small fish survive to reproduce, then future generations of fish will also tend to be small.
For the second five years of his experiment, Conover changed the rules and took fish randomly from each group. At the end of the experiment, he found that the fish that were in the “keep the large ones” group for the first five years had started to get larger again, although he calculated it would take at least 12 years for the fish in that group to return to their original size.
In other words, it takes less time to shrink(變小) than it does to recover.
小題1: The underlined word “it” (Line 2) refers to “           ”
A.the activityB.the fish
C.the ruleD.the fisherman
小題2:Why do many people follow the “keep the big ones, throw the small ones back” rule?
A.It helps to protect fish numbers.
B.It helps to protect fish size.
C.It is the custom in most countries.
D.They will be punished if they don’t.
小題3:What did Conover find after the first five years of his experiment?
A.The “keep the big ones” rule made no difference to fish size.
B.The “keep the big ones” rule made fish smaller on average.
C.The “keep the big ones” rule made the fish bigger on average.
D.The “keep the big ones” rule affected all fish populations in the same way.
小題4: What is the author’s intention in writing this article?
A.To encourage people to fish more carefully.
B.To urge governments to change the rules of fishing.
C.To describe the results of a scientific experiment.
D.To introduce the rules of fishing to readers.

June 11,2013 was another big day for Chinese space exploration. Shenzhou X, China’s fifth manned spacecraft, was sent into space. Three astronauts, Nie Haisheng, 49, Zhang Xiaoguang, 47, and Wang Yaping, 33, stayed in space for 15 days.
Tiangong-1 is China’s first space module(艙). It was sent into space in 2011. It will be developed into a large space station around 2020. A space station is a lab for scientific studies.Shenzhou X performed its first docking(對(duì)接)with Tiangong-1 on June 13. It docked twice during the 15 days.
The US, Russia, Japan, Canada and Europe are working together on the International Space Station (ISS).China wanted to join the ISS but was refused by the US. China decided to build its own space station.
Shenzhou X flew around the Tianggong-1 lab for the first time. This was to make sure that spacecraft could dock from more than just one direction. The astronauts carried out repair work and did experiments on the Tiangong-1.
Teaching from space
Wang Yaping, China’s second woman astronaut, taught high school and primary school students about space science. Wang talked about how things move in a micro-gravity(微重量)environment. This helped the students better understand some physics ideas, like Newton’s Law. The lessons aimed to encourage more students to learn about the universe and science.
Life up in space
The three astronauts followed a work and rest schedule(作息時(shí)間)that is similar on the Earth. They had Chinese dishes, such as Kung Pao Chicken and fried rice. The food was kept in special bags. At the time of the Dragon Boat Festival, they had Zongzi.
