【答案】Dear Editor,

I am writing to tell you about the survey I've made on “Using paper cards or ecards?” in our class.

About 30% of the students want to use paper cards. First of all, they think paper cards are made by hand and they can express people's feelings. Second, paper cards are easy to take and can be kept for long. Third, people can read them without computers.

However, around 70% of the students prefer to use ecards. For one thing, ecards can carry lots of information and people can send them quickly. For another thing, using ecards can save paper so that our environment can be protected well. What's more, people can make various designs they like.

In my opinion, we should try our best to use ecards. They can not only pass our love quickly and conveniently but also protect our earth.

Yours sincerely,

Wang Qiang

【題目】 What would the world be like if cars could drive themselves?Imagine seeing an empty car passing by on its way to pick up its owner, or a car full of passengers who are reading, listening to music or even sleeping. But none of them is worried about the road ahead.

Well, all of these could be the future of driving. There are several companies, for example, Google, working on driverless cars. So far, no Google selfdriven car has got a traffic ticket, but some of them have been in accident when other cars hit them.

These cars are now still in the testing stages. If the tests are successful, these electric, selfdriven cars could be available very soon. But how is it possible for a car to drive itself?Cars already have many features allowing them to take the place of drivers during certain situations. Some features include cars being able to park themselves, or slow down when they notice other cars close by. They can also control the speed if there are dangerous conditions.

Scientists believe that with the help of wireless signals, cameras and GPS, it is possible to create a safe selfdriven car very soon.

The cause of deadly road accidents is usually careless drivers or dangerous conditions. The selfdriven car may be able to stop this. However, some people do not like the idea. American lawyer Whit Drake, for example, doesn't believe these cars are safe. He thinks that technologies can also be mistakes.

【題目】Mechanical Engineering

Do you like to build with blocks? Have you ever wondered how planes stay in the air? Do you like to design and create new things? If you do,a career(職業(yè))in mechanical engineering might be right for you!

A mechanical engineer is responsible for coming up with and designing mechanical systems. Mechanical systems can include machine design, heating and cooling equipment, and product design.

Mechanical engineers are in high need right now. There are a lot of job openings for mechanical engineers, but there aren't enough people to fill those jobs. Because there is a high need for engineers and the work requires specialized knowledgeengineers get paid more than some other careers.

To be a mechanical engineer, you need to graduate from college with a bachelor's(學(xué)士)degree. In college, you will learn problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Problem solving is very important in the field of mechanical engineering. To come up with the best solution to a problem, mechanical engineers need to think in different ways. They also need to be creative, because they may need to make something that's never been made before. Paying attention to details(細(xì)節(jié))is important as well. Many designs depend on a lot of little details.

Mechanical engineers also need to be able to use different tools, such as calculators,high-speed cameras, and computers. There are many computer programs mechanical engineers use to create designs, run scenarios(方案),and do research.

As with many other jobsmechanical engineers should be able to meet deadlines(期限)and work well with other people. Some jobs can be done with just one person, but more often mechanical engineers work on a team to complete a project. If an engineer cannot manage his or her time well and misses a deadline, the whole team gets delayed(拖延).

Some engineers work in an office, and some travel to different worksites while a machine or product is being built,so they can help solve any problems.

Mechanical engineering takes a lot of thought. It is a great career for people who like to make objects and machines worksolve problems, and be creative

1What is a mechanical engineer responsible for?

2To be a mechanical engineer, what will a student learn in college?

3How can mechanical engineers come up with the best solution to a problem?

4Why should a mechanical engineer be able to meet deadlines?

5Where do mechanical engineers work?

【題目】 Homework exams and most importantly, test scores--- the things you have to worry about seem endless. You are sure not alone. In China, many students are stressed out because of too much homework. But there might be good news for some of them.

On Oct 28th, the Education Department of Zhejiang Province polished a draft(提綱) on cutting students’ homework to ask about public opinions and it had became a hot topic. It gives primary school pupils the right to leave their homework unfinished after 9pm, and junior high school students after 10pm, with parents’ permission.

Children in Zhejiang will like the draft. However, it has mat strong objections(反對(duì)) from parents. Although parents don’t want their children under too much pressure with homework, many disagree to cut homework down.

There is a reason for the objectionsgaokao, the “all-important” national entrance exam. If schools reduce homework, “the parents, who want their children to get higher scores, must provide them with more after-school trainings,” said a primary school teacher in Hangzhou.

The aim of this draft, an official in Zhejiang explained, is to help to treat students differently and make sure they get enough sleep.

Chu Zhaohui, a researcher at the National Institute of Education Sciences, also doubted if the guidelines would be carried on. “They are not suitable in the recent social environment.” He said to People’s Daily.

“Even if schools make changes, it is difficult to change the way that students study for scores.” He suggests that it would make better sense to make the system of college admission more flexible, and in many other countries, the performance of students is judged by professional institution rather than government.

1What does underlined “many” in para.3 refer to?

A.Children who will welcome the move.

B.Parents who are against the move.

C.Teachers who don’t want their students to be under some stress.

A.The draft is not welcomed by many parents in Zhejiang.

B.Maybe parents will send their children to more after-school training.

C.The aim of the draft is to make sure students can have enough time to exercise.

D.Students should be treated differently.

3What does Chu Zhaohui mainly want to tell us?

A.Students will have more chance to take part in the activities they like because of the draft.

B.The system of college admission should be changed as the school has made changes.

C.Students should spend more time doing homework if we change the system of college admissions.

D.The performance of students should be judged by their school.

4What is the best title of this passage?

A.Can students have the right to do whatever they like?

B.Can parents pay less attention to their kids?

C.Can schools have the chance to choose students?

D.Can students spend less time doing homework?
