【題目】 Sometimes, a teacher may ask you to write your reading assignments (任務). Why should we write a reading assignment?
Having a habit of writing down what you read is a useful tool to develop your comprehension (理解力) and critical-thinking (批判性思維) ability.
How to write a reading assignment?
Step 1
State the writer’s most important idea. Try your best to get the main idea according to the writer’s statements. Write down the important information to increase understanding.
Step 2
Use your own words. Imagine you are telling a friend about a great movie you saw or a great book that you read. Speak in your own language, but be sure to use standard English, not slang (俚語).
Step 3
Watch for each point and topic sentences the writer uses to support his most important idea. These points form an outline (概述) of your reading assignment.
Step 4
Pay attention to details (細節(jié)). Examine if the writer provides enough details to support his statements. Tell what those details are while writing your reading assignment.
Step 5
. You should not talk about the writer’s supporting points without first talking about what those points are about.

【題目】 Children know that summer is probably the most fun of all seasons. However, experts say it is also the most dangerous, especially for children aged 14 and under. In its first study of children's safety in the US, the National Safe Kids Campaign (NSKC) found nearly half of the injury-related (與傷害相關的)deaths among children happened in summer.
Experts are not surprised by the study's results. They always know summer is a dangerous season for children. During the summer, children are out of school and spend more time outdoors. They are more likely to get into an accident or be injured. "While we encourage children to be active and spend more time outdoors, they need to understand the importance of safety." said Everett Koop, an expert of the NSKC.
To help children stay safe, the NSKC started a "Make it a Safe Kids Summer" campaign during National Safe Kids Week, from 5th May through 12th May, Here are some important summer safety tips from the NSKC.

【題目】 We all have a first name and a last name, or family name. But for many of us, it doesn't stop there. 【1】 They mostly come from our real names.
Some of them are obvious (明顯的): Tom is short for Thomas; Sam is short for Samuel. 【2】 Take the name William as an example. It can be shortened to Will, and also Bill. 【3】 During the Middle Ages, people liked to change letters to make names easier to pronounce. For example, a hard consonant (輔音) like Bis clearer than soft ones like W. Bill sounds much clearer than Will. Interestingly, the people of England even called King Wiliam III, who ruled in the 17th century, "King Billy".
Richard has also been a popular name in England for centuries. It was commonly shortened to Richand Rick to save time. 【4】 So Rick became Dick. This nickname became so popular that it included in an idiom. "Every Tom, Dick and Harry" means everybody!
【5】 England has had eight king Henrys. Yet most of them preferred to be called Harry. It is a tradition that continues today. The British Prince Harry's real name is Henry. I wonder if Harry Potter's real name is Henry.
A.We also have nicknames.
B.But how does Bill come from William?
C.The most popular name for English kings has been Henry.
D.Also, like the name William, people liked to make rhyming names.
E.Yet there are some nicknames whose origins are more mysterious.
