This news is about a man. He is from Brazil and he is old. It's not quite the classic Santa looks. He has snow white hair and a beard.  When it is Christmas,he plays Santa Claus.  He sits in a shopping center. And thousands of young Brazilian boys and girls will be queuing up to see this guy for Christmas. They talk to him about Christmas presents. Brazilian artist Vitor Martins has been a shopping mall Santa in Sao Paulo for 16 years.

There is something interesting about the man. He has many pictures made out of ink on his body. Ninetyfour percent of his body has tattoos.

Anyone doubting Martins' commitment (獻身) to playing Santa has to do nothing more than having a quick look at the artwork which covers his skin.

From Jesus to Jingle Bells, there's no shortage of Christmasthemed pictures made out of ink on his body to show his dedication

(   ) 1. Vitor Martins is         .

   A. a salesman   B. an artist   C. a musician   D. a shopping mall owner

(   ) 2. Many young people in Brazil come to the shopping mall to         .

   A. sit in the shopping center   B. buy the cheap things

   C. buy Christmas presents   D. see the artist Vitor Martins

(   ) 3. The underlined word "tattoos" means "         ”in Chinese.

(   ) 4. Which is NOT true according to the passage?

   A. Vitor Martins has been a shopping mall Santa for sixteen years.

   B. Vitor Martins plays Santa Claus when it is Christmas.

   C. Nobody doubts Vitor Martins' commitment to playing Santa.

   D. There are many Christmasthemed pictures on Vitor Martins' body.

(   ) 5. The passage may be         .

   A. a novel   B. an advertisement   C. news   D. a story

根據(jù)"Brazilian artist Vilor Martins has been a shopping mall Santa in Sao Paulo for16years."

Many young people in Brazil和the shopping mall,可回原文定位于第一段。根據(jù)"And thousands of young Brazilian boys and girls will be queuing up lo see this guy for Christmas."

根據(jù)"He has many pictures made out of ink on his body.以判斷. tattoos相-l4于"pictures made oul of ink on his body",結(jié)合選項可知,tattoo的意思是"紋身"。

根據(jù)"Anyone doubting Martins' comnitmenl to playing Santa . . ." Brazilian artist Vitor Martins ... for 16 years." When it is Christmas,he plays Santa Claus."可知,當圣誕節(jié)到來的時候, Vitor Martins扮演圣誕老人,排除B;根據(jù)最后一段中的"there's no shortage of Christmasthemed pictures made out of ink on his body" 可以判斷,在Vitor Martins身上有很多關(guān)于圣誕主題的圖片,排除D。

This news is about a man."

How hard we have all prayed (祈禱) to grow up quickly, and looked forward to the happy days of being a grownup and enjoying the many interests that a youth should have.

At last, you have grown up. At least you are no longer a child. They call you "young lady". You then enjoy the pleasure of being a young lady. You are proud of being a grown?up teenager. People welcome you―this young lady―heartily. You are glad that your prayer has been answered.

But there is always something that troubles you a lot. You say, "Papa and Mama, give me some money please. My pocket money is all gone already."

"No”, they say, " Your age is a dangerous age. If you have too much money to spend,it won't do you any good. ” Then you have to stay at home because you dare not go out with an empty pocket.

Another time you tell your grandma, "Grandma, see,I am a grownup now." "Good, now you can sit here and knit (編織) this for me while I go and have a rest. " To show that you are no more a child, you have to sit there the whole afternoon doing the work, which only a grownup can do. After an hour, you find it hard to do,and give the knitting basket back to your grandma. Your grandma criticizes your work. You hear what she says, "Such a big girl can't do such easy work. Many years ago, when I was fresh out of school and working in Denver,I was driving to my parents' home in Missouri for Christmas. I stopped at a gas station about 50 miles from Oklahoma City, where I was planning to stop and visit a friend. While I was standing in line at the cash register,I said hello to an older couple who were also paying for gas.

I took off,but had gone only a few miles when black smoke poured from the back of my car. I stopped and wondered what I should do. A car pulled up behind me. It was the couple I had spoken to at the gas station. They said they would take me to my friend's. We chatted on the way into the city, and when I got out of the car,the husband gave me his business card.

I wrote him and his wife a thankyou note for helping me. Soon afterward,I received a Christmas present from them. Their note that came with it said that helping me had made their holidays meaningful.

Years later,I drove to a meeting in a nearby town in the morning. In late afternoon I returned to my car and found that Fd left the lights on all day,and the battery was dead. Then I noticed that the Friendly Ford dealership―a shop selling cars―was right next door. I walked over and found two salesmen in the showroom.

"Just how friendly is Friendly Ford?" I asked and explained my trouble. They would accept no payment,so when I got home,I wrote them a note to say thanks. I received a letter back from one of the salesmen. No one had ever taken the time to write him and say " thank you" ,and it meant so much.

"Thank you"―two powerful words. They're easy to say and mean so much.
