Dear Mom,
Time flies quickly. Two months has gone by since I joined this boarding school. Everything is going
well. During my first month here, I was like a fish out of water. I came to realize how many things I should
thank you for.
On the cold winter days, I have to get up early almost every morning to fetch hot water. I began to
feel ashamed that I never said 'thank you" every time you prepared (準(zhǔn)備) hot water for me each morning on winter days before I got up.
I am no longer that girl who was often unable to find her books in her bedroom. It used to take me a
lot of time to collect all the books for the day's classes. But I have gotten over that bad habit now. And
now I know how much time you used to take to collect my books every evening.
I have learned to do the laundry on my own now. I came to realize that washing clothes is a boring
job, especially on winter days. Sometimes there is no hot water and I have to wash my clothes with cold
water by hand.
I came to know how grateful (感激的) I should be to have you as my mom. Thank you, Mom.
                                                                                                                                                     Yours,

Dear Editor

I am writing to you to tell you about my problems with my family.I am very unhappy now and I need help.

I think my parents don’t understand me.They don’t care what I like doing, but always talk about how I should study. They don’t let me go out with my friends at weekends. They always ask and even order me to stay at home and study.I’m sure I could still study very well even if I had more time to play, but they just don’t listen to me.We often argue with(與...爭論)each other.

I really hope that my parents can become my friends. What shall I do? How can I let them know this? Please give me some advice.Thank you!

Yours

Dear Year 5 kids,

Hello! I’m from Year 6 in Mrs. Batley’s class. However, last year I was a Year 5 kid in Mr. Poulter’s class. We went on a fantastic journey to see “The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World” by courtesy of (承蒙……的允許) Time Travel Tours Ltd. Yes, we got into their “time machine” (we had to travel this way as the wonders are all gone now except for the pyramids) and set the dials for the correct time and place. And before we knew it, we were walking around the masterpieces of architecture (建筑杰作). We sent back postcards from all seven places. Click on any of these seven locations on the map below to find out what we saw. This year’s Year 5 kids may find it very useful! So, get exploring and discover ...

Dear editor( 編輯),

Can't your newspaper do something about the custom (習(xí)慣) of hitchhiking?

A short time ago, on a car travel I counted at least 50 people standing beside the road, asking for rides. Many of them were young women.

Don't they understand how dangerous it is to get into the car driven by a stranger? How much do they know about the driver? Is he a good driver or not? They know nothing!

Many of these young hitchhikers may come from good families. Don't their parents teach them anything about the world? I always taught my children not to talk to strangers. I never let them take rides from people they didn't know.

Isn't there enough crime (犯罪) today without asking for trouble by hitchhiking? On the other hand, hitchhiking may bring some traffic trouble. Don't you think what I said is true?

B.is a good driver and often gives free rides to strangers

C.is in trouble now and he wants to get some help from the newspaper

D.sees much of the world and he is very careful

4. The Worried Grandfather wrote the letter to tell          .

A.the newspaper to let its readers know the danger of hitchhiking

B.young women never to go on a long travel alone

C.young people to listen to their parents at home

D.his children not to talk to strangers on the road

5. What do you think a good editor is going to do after he gets the letter?

A.He will either return the letter to the old man or give it to the police station.

B.He will write back to the Worried Grandfather and tell him not to hitchhike

C.He will ask someone to write something about it in the newspaper.

D.He will hold a meeting to tell the drivers to make the traffic trouble less.

Dear Fang,

How are you these days? I have been in England for two months. It’s not a long time for a newcomer, and there are still a lot of things to do. Sorry for not being able to write to you soon.

London is an old but beautiful city. There are lots of places of interest to visit. Last weekend I went along Thames River with some friends from Japan, Korea and some other countries. The modern skyscrapers(摩天大樓) among the old buildings impressed(給…留下印象) us deeply. The classes started two weeks after I arrived here alone. Besides the language, I’m trying to learn about the culture as well. British people are quite different from the Chinese. Do you know the people here do not shake hands as much as we do in China? And it’s never a good habit to make noise when you eat. They think it’s impolite.

There is so much to say, but I have to stop.

I will write to you soon again.

Love,

Harry
