【題目】

The growth in skyscrapers (摩天大樓) worldwide, most of which have large glass panes, has led to a great need for window washers. Though the job, which earns workers as much as $35 an hour, can be lucrative, accidents are not uncommon. However, the dangerous chore may soon be done by Ozmo, an intelligent window cleaning robot, with humans supervising (監(jiān)督) from the safety of the ground.

Much like humans, Ozmo, hanging off the sides of the building, uses its arms and brushes to clean the dirt and grime on the glass panes. A 3-D map of the building programmed into its system allows the robot to skillfully move up and down. Computer vision and touch sensors (傳感器) enable it to move out of the way in case of unexpected events, such as the sudden opening of a window. And the robot will self-correct and move around it so as not to break a window.

Unlike other window washers, the robot cleaner does not require soap or Windex to clean the glass. Instead, it uses purified water (純凈水) and a process called reverse osmosis (反滲透) to do the job. It is environmentally friendly.

While it takes three cleaners 480 hours each to clean the windows of a 40-story glass building, the robot will single-handedly complete the task in just 80 hours. However, unlike other robots, Ozmo will not replace human workers, only making their jobs safer. Human workers will control the robot from below.

Whether Ozmo, which is still undergoing testing, docs as good a job as humans remains to be seen. * Past efforts to use a robot to do this dangerous job have not been successful, because the machines do not have the same eye as humans and often miss the soot (煙垢) collected on window corners.

2The second paragraph mainly tells us

A.why Ozmo is much more intelligent than human workers

C.what makes Ozmo an intelligent window cleaning robot

A.Purified water.B.Soap.C.Grime or soot.

4To finish the task of cleaning the windows of a 40-story glass building, Ozmo spends ________ hours less than a cleaner.

A.560B.400C.1,360

5Which of the following is TRUE about Ozmo?

A.As an intelligent window cleaning robot. Ozmo is successful.

B.Ozmo does harm to the environment while cleaning the window.

【題目】閱讀下面的短文,然后根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答問題。

The Forbidden City is also called “Zijincheng (purple forbidden city)”. It is the largest and greatest palace in China today. Under Ming Emperor ,people began to build the Forbidden City in 1406,and it took 14 years to finish it.

The palace is 960 meters long from north to south and 750 meters wide from east to west. It has 9,900 rooms under a total roof area 150,000 square meters. A 52-meter-wide-moat(護城河) encircles a 9.9 –meter- high wall which encloses the complex(綜合設施).

The Forbidden City in Beijing was the emperors’ palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Though its walls are red and its roofs are yellow, the palace’s name mentions the color purple. How did it get this name? In fact, this has more to do with what the palace stands for than what it looks like.

The character “ zi ” refers to (指代) the Ziwei star. According to ancient Chinese astronomy (天文學), the Ziwei star was surrounded (包圍) by 28 other stars, meaning it was the heart of the sky. People believed that the palace of the God Emperor, which is called Ziweigong, or Ziwei palace, was located on this star.

Chinese emperors were believed to be the sons of the God Emperor. It was believed that their palace on the earth should be like the Ziweigong in the sky. That’s how the Forbidden City got its name.

In Chinese culture, the color purple stands for good luck. This belief began with Laozi, the founder of Taoism (道教) who lived around 2,500 years ago. One day, when Laozi was traveling through the Hangu Pass (函谷關) in Henan from the east, a purple mist suddenly appeared in the air. This “purple air from the east” (紫氣東來) story led people to connect the color to great sages (圣人), and it also stands for nobility (高貴).

1When did people finish building The Forbidden City?

2Does the name of “Zijincheng” have more to do with what it looks like?

3How wide is the moat which encircles the high wall?

4Where was the God Emperor’s palace located according to ancient Chinese belief?

5What does the color “purple” stand for in Chinese culture?
