Can plants eat people? Probably not,but there are many plants that eat meat. Some of them are big.And they can eat small animals. One famous meat-eating plant is the Venus flytrap(捕蠅草).
The Venus flytrap is a very strange plant. It grows in dry parts of the United States. Its leaves are like the pages of a book. They can open and close very quickly.Inside the leaves, there are three small hairs. If a fly touches one of the hairs, the leaf closes quickly. The fly cannot get out.In about half an hour, the leaf presses the fly until it is dead. Then, the plant covers the fly.Slowly, the plant eats the fly.

It’s a long-awaited day for China. The navy now has its first aircraft carrier(航空母艦), Liaoning.
It’s a unique experience to get to know the life in the carrier. The carrier is just like a small city on the sea. It has all the functions for daily life. There are 4 words to sum up its characters: big, small, much and high. The carrier Liaoning is such a huge one that the total length of the whole corridor(過道)could reach over 20 kilometers. But the living space for the sailors(水手)is quite small. That’s because the carrier is designed for researching purposes, rather than comfortable living. Over 1,000 sailors, both men and women, are living onboard. They are arranged among over 3,000 tiny rooms below the deck. For visitors, it’s so easy to get lost. So the first thing the new sailors have to learn is their way around. The number of female sailors is much less than that of the males, taking about 5 percent of the total. But they play a key role in carrying out some special missions.
Also, you will be surprised by the high level of education of today’s sailors. The captain said that over 90 percent of the sailors are college graduates. Six hold Doctor’s Degrees and 45 have a Master’s. The whole team is young but vigorous. The complex work on the carrier requires high management abilities for the commanders onboard(在船上).
【小題1】Why do we visitors get lost easily inside the carrier?
A.Because they don’t have a map. |
B.Because the living space is quite small. |
C.Because there are too many corridors for rooms. |
D.Because the corridor inside the carrier is too long. |
A.The aircraft carrier is high since it is just like a small city. |
B.Most of the soldiers received good education. |
C.The expense(花費)to run a carrier is high. |
D.The high-level of their training. |
A.Liaoning is our country’s first aircraft carrier. |
B.Most of the sailors on the carrier are college graduates. |
C.There are far fewer women sailors than men sailors on the carrier. |
D.It is comfortable for the sailors to live in the carrier. |

The Clockwork Radio
The British inventor Trevor Baylis created this really clever ′wind-up radio′ for people from Third World countries. in some parts of the Third World countries, it’s very hard for people to get or pay for enough energy. This radio uses no batteries (電池) and does not need any electricity to run it. A clockwork generator (發(fā)電機) is put inside the radio and works as the power. When it is fully wound up (上弦), the radio can work for long periods.
The clock work product is not a new invention. The Victorians had already put it in wide use. We may find them used in toys as well. Then what is new about this clockwork radio? Baylis has used this simple but effective (高效的) way of creating electricity to both help the people of the Third World and to develop a product which is selling well in Western Europe.
Even former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandella has one of these radios and personally recommends this product to others.
1.What does the clockwork radio use to run it?
A. Batteries. B. Electricity.
C. A clockwork generator. D. Wind power.
2.The Third World countries are in the world.
A. the rich countries B. the poor countries
C. Western European D. Victorian countries
3.Which sentence is true according to the passage?
A. the clockwork radio can work for only a short period of time.
B. Trevor Baylis created the world’s first clockwork product.
C. The clockwise radio is also a toy for people of the Third World.

任務(wù)型閱讀。(共5小題,每小題2分,計10分)閱讀短文,并按要求完成下列試題。
Some countries have large numbers of earthquakes. Japan is one of them. One of the most serious earthquakes in world history took place in Japan in 1923. The shock and fires caused by it destroyed much of Tokyo and Yokohama and left more than 7000 dead. Other countries do not have many. For examples, there are few earthquakes in Britain, France, Germany.
There is often a great noise during an earthquake, but it is not always. The earth rocks. Houses fall down. Railway lines are broken. Sometimes many people are killed in an earthquake. People think earthquakes often happen near volcanoes(火山), but this is not always true. The centers of some are under the sea. The bottom of the sea suddenly moves. The powerful forces inside the earth break the rocks. The coast is rocking and great waves are caused there. These waves travel long distances and rush over the land when they reach it. They are strong enough to break down houses and other buildings; sometimes they break more buildings than earthquake itself.
What kind of building stands up best in an earthquake? A building with concrete(水泥) walls is perhaps the best. A steel frame(框架) will make it even stronger. The frame holds the different parts together and the walls do not easily fall. There is less chance of fire because concrete and steel(鋼材) does not burn. This kind of building is the safest. Today modern concrete and steel apartment buildings are commonly seen in cities of Japan.
1.Why do we say that an earthquake is terrible?
_____________________________________________________________
2.What kind of building is the safest for us to live in against earthquakes?
_____________________________________________________________
3.Which country has the largest number of earthquakes, Britain, Japan, or France?
_________________________________________________________________
4.判斷正誤:正確的在括號里寫T,錯誤寫F。
( ) The text mainly tells us how to protect ourselves when the earthquake happens.
5.Put the underlined sentences into Chinese
