Venus (金星) has long been one of the most misunderstood planets. Like the earth, Venus has its own atmosphere. However, the atmosphere is much thicker than that of the earth, which makes it difficult for modern scientists to study. There is much we still do not know about what this planet like. However, using special machines, scientists have unlocked many of the long-hidden secrets in recent years.

Venus is in many ways the earth’s sister planet. It is almost the same in size and chemistry as the earth. In other words, Venus is made up of almost the exact same types of materials as the earth, in about the same amounts.

In the early days of Venus’ 4-billion-year-old life, it would have appeared very similar to the earth. The two would have been almost the same. However, over a period of a few million years ago, Venus lies much closer to the sun than our planet. It has made Venus terribly hot.

Since it is closer to the sun, Venus’ temperature should be a little warmer than that of the earth. As the planet warmed, water which can be used to form oceans, lakes and rivers, evaporated(蒸發(fā)). This increase in water vapor(水蒸氣)began a cycle of global warming. Water vapor is a very effective greenhouse gas. It caused the temperature to rise and more water to evaporate. The temperature then climbed still further. Today it is likely that all of Venus’s water has evaporated into the atmosphere. This atmosphere effectively keeps the sun’s energy and makes the surface to burn much hotter than it naturally would.

If you happen to find a way to survive the extreme heat on the surface of Venus, you will quickly notice something strange about the days. Venus rotates(旋轉(zhuǎn)) very slowly, so that a day on Venus actually lasts longer than a year. Instead of the sun rising in the east and setting in the west, the sun would appear to rise in the west and set in the east when you are on Venus.

【1】Both Venus and the earth have their own atmosphere, don’t they?

_______________, _____________________________________________________.

根據(jù)短文第一段“Like the earth, Venus has its own atmosphere. ”的介紹可知,金星和地球都有大氣層。因此回答是肯定的,故應(yīng)答:Yes, they do.

根據(jù)短文第一段“using special machines, scientists have unlocked many of the long-hidden secrets in recent years.” Using special machines.

根據(jù)短文“Venus is made up of almost the exact same types of materials as the earth, in about the same amounts.” Venus is made up of almost the exact same types of materials as the earth, in about the same amounts.

根據(jù)短文“Venus rotates(旋轉(zhuǎn)) very slowly, so that a day on Venus actually lasts longer than a year. Instead of the sun rising in the east and setting in the west, the sun would appear to rise in the west and set in the east when you are on Venus.” 故應(yīng)答:Venus rotates(旋轉(zhuǎn)) very slowly, so that a day on Venus actually lasts longer than a year.

根據(jù)短文“The sun would appear to rise in the west and set in the east when you are on Venus.” The sun would appear to rise in the west and set in the east when you are on Venus.

Greenhouse gas.Too much traffic and air condition may cause greenhouse gas.

On May 24, Theresa May gave a public speech outside Downing Street. She made the decision to resign(辭職)as the UK's prime minister(首相)after failing to pass Brexit- a plan to separate(使脫離)the UK from the European Union (EU).

May broke down in tears as she finished her speech. Many people have wondered what she’s like in her personal life.

May, who was born in 1956, is the UK's second female(女性的)prime minister after Margaret Thatcher. She had to overcome many challenges to get to this position. When she was a child, she dreamed about becoming the first female prime minister of Britain. One of her childhood friends told reporters that she had gotten angry when Thatcher became the first female prime minister before her.

May studied geography at Oxford University. After graduating, she worked in the bank. In 1997 she was elected(選舉)as a member of Parliament(議會(huì)).

In June 2016, the prime minister (前首相)David Cameron decided to leave the business of Brexit behind him for May to deal with.

When May became prime minister, she was ambitious(有雄心的)about Brexit. However, she felt tired after many failed talks with the EU.

Still, I am very inspired by May. She is a strong woman who fought hard to make good deals (交易)with the EU. Although she failed most of the time, she still got up and carried on. She will go down in history.

2Did Theresa May cry when she finished her speech?
