George is a rich man. He likes playing jokes. On Christmas Eve, he wants to give his housekeeper(管家) Jack a big reward (獎(jiǎng)賞). He tells Jack, "There are four bowls of porridge here. I put two gold coins(金幣)in one of the bowls. Dear Jack, let’s see if you are lucky.”

Jack wants the gold coins very much, but he is not sure which bowl is the right one. He drinks some porridge from the first bowl. Suddenly, he feels the gold coins should be in the second bowl, so he turns to it and drinks half the porridge.

He then drinks half the porridge in the third bowl, too. After that he starts to get a little unhappy. At last, he changes his mind. He drinks half of the porridge in the fourth bowl with much difficulty --at this moment Jack is so full that he can't drink any porridge. In the end, hie doesn't get even one gold coin.

In fact, George puts two coins in every bowl. If Jack could finish just one bowl of porridge, then he would find at least (至少)two gold coins.

That's the way it is in everything in life! If you keep working on something, you will get some fruits at last.
