On the first day of school our teacher introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn’t already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned around to find a little old lady with a warm smile. She said, “Hi, handsome. My name is Rose. I’m eighty-seven years old.”

“Why are you in university at such a YOUNG age?” I asked. She replied, “I’m here to meet a rich husband, get married, have a couple of kids, and then retire and travel.” I knew she was joking. I was curious (好奇) what might have encouraged her to be taking on this challenge at her age. “I always dreamed of having a university education and now I’m getting one!” she told me. We became friends. Every day we would talk nonstop after class. I always enjoyed listening to this “time machine” as she shared her wisdom (智慧) and experience with me. And Rose easily made friends wherever she went.

At the end of the term we invited Rose to make a little speech. She cleared her throat and began, “We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. I’ve learned a few secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You’ve got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die.”

“There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. Anybody can grow older. That doesn’t take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding the opportunity in change...”

In America, many teenagers have a part-time job. A part-time job is one that you do a few hours each week to make money. Do you have a part-time job?

Teens can have many different kinds of part-time jobs. Some teens work in groceries (雜貨). Others may work in other local business such as the clothes store. You may have friends who work in a fast food restaurant. They may make the food, or keep the restaurant clean. Many teens make money by looking after younger children in the neighborhood. Some teens even have their own business. They cut grass and take care of pets in their neighborhoods while other people are on vacation.

Most teens who have part-time jobs work only a few hours after school, maybe two or three times a week. They often have to work all day on Saturday.

Having a part-time job has many advantages. The job teaches you new skills that you can use as an adult. The job also teaches you responsibility (責(zé)任). The person who paid you for the job expects you to be there. The job also pays you money that you can use for many different things. Your family might need the money to help with the family budget (預(yù)算). If you're lucky, you could use the money to buy music and videos. You might want to save the money to buy a new bicycle or maybe even a car.

In some families, teens have part-time jobs to help make money to go to college. Going to college is very expensive. Many parents cannot pay for their child's education without help from the child. In some families, at least half of what a teen makes at a part-time job goes into a college savings account (賬戶). The teen can spend the rest of the money on what he or she needs or wants.

Many teenagers have part-time jobs and still have time for their friends and families. Many still belong to clubs at school and even have time to play sports. If you have a part-time job,you need to have a good plan to help you do everything you want and have to do. Do your homework and chores as soon as you can. Don't let the work wait and pile up (堆積). Make sure you get to your job on time. Do the things that are most important to you. Spend time with the people you care about most.

In a classroom in any countries, the teachers teaches more than art or history or language. He or she teaches something behind---the culture of the country.

In a country such as the United States, people with different history, culture and language join together and the pay much attention to personal ideas. Teachers try to make each student special. Students do not have to remember a lot of information, instead, they work and find answers by themselves. There is often discussion in the classroom..

At an early age students learn to have their own ideas. Their education encourages personal thought。83The importance is placed on how to arrive at an answer and not only to get the correct answer.

In most Asian countries, people have the same language, history and culture. Perhaps for this reason, the education there pays more attention to group goals than personl ideas. Children in China and Japan often work together and help each other on homework. In the classroom, the ways of teaching are often very traditional. The teachers says, and the students listen. There is not much discussion. Instead, the students repeat rules or information that they have been taught in order to keep them in mind.

In many ways these differences come from different educational ideas. In western countries teachers are taught to help students to learn. They make it easier for the students to learn by themselves. 84In some Asian countries, however, teachers often feel that their job is to pass knowledge to students.
