23. Come on,baby. Help to some if you like.

   A. yourself;chick   B. yourself;chicken

   C. yourselves;chickens   D. you;chickens

23. B

23. B本題考查反身代詞和不可數(shù)名詞的用法。help oneself意為"自用",又根據(jù)題干中的baby可知第一空應(yīng)用 yourself,先排除C和D;表示”雞肉”要用chicken ,故選B.

You either have it,or you don't — a sense of direction. But why is it that some people can find their way across the Sahara without a map while others can lose themselves in the next street?

Scientists say we’re all bom with a sense of direction,bu彳 it is not properly understood how it works. One theory is tha people with a good sense of direction have simply workec harder at developing it. Research being carried out at Liverpoo University supports this idea and suggests that if we don't use it,we lose it.

"Children as young as seven have the ability to find theii way around," says Jim Maryland, research director of the project. " However,if they are not allowed to go out alone or are taken everywhere by car, they never develop the skills. "

Jim Maryland also emphasizes that young people should b"( taught certain skills to improve their sense of direction. He makes the following suggestions:

If you are using a map, turn it so that it relates to the wa] you are facing.

If you leave your bike in a strange place, put it nea: something like a big stone or a tree — something easy t ( recognize. Note landmarks on the route as you go away fron your bike. When you return,go back along the same route.

Simplify (簡(jiǎn)化) the way of finding your direction by usir^ lines such as streets in a town, streams,or wells in th ( countryside to guide you. Count your steps so that you knov how far you have gone and note any landmarks such as towe: blocks or hills which can help to find out where you are.

科目:初中英語(yǔ) 來(lái)源: 題型:

Are some people bom clever, and others bom stupid? Or is intelligence developed by our environment and our experience? Strangely enough, the answer to these questions is yes. In some degree, our intelligence is given to us at birth, and no education can make a genius out of a child bom with low intelligence. On the other hand,a child who lives in a poor environment will develop his intelligence less than one who lives in a rich environment. Therefore, the limits (限度) of people's intelligence are fixed at birth. Whether he reaches those limits will depend on his environment. This point of view now is held by most experts.

It is easy to show that intelligence is something that we are bom with. The closer the blood relationship between two people is,the closer their degrees of intelligence are. If we take two strangers by chance from the population,it seems that their degrees of intelligence will be completely different. If,on the other hand,we compare two twins, they are very likely to be as intelligent as each other. Relations like brothers and sisters, parents and children, usually have similar degree of intelligence, and this clearly suggests that intelligence depends on birth.

Imagine now that we take two twins and put them in different environments. We might send one,for example,to a university and the other to a factory where the work is boring. We would soon find differences in intelligence developing, and this shows that environment as well as birth plays an important part. This result is also suggested by the fact that people who live in close contact with each other but are not related at all are likely to have similar degree of intelligence.

53. The limits of man's intelligence are fixed .

   A. at birth.

   B. through education.

   C. both at birth and through education.

   D. neither at birth nor through education.

54. According to the passage,if a child is born with low intelligence, what might happen to him later?

   A. He might become a genius.

   B. He might still become a genius if he should be given special education.

   C. He might reach his intelligence limits in rich environment.

   D. He might never reach his intelligence in his life.

55. What statement is TRUE in the passage?

   A. No education can help make a genius.

   B. Personality is as important as intelligence which was given to people at birth.

   C. People who have similar degree of intelligence must be relatives.

   D. Environment influences people in intelligence developing.
