I’ve never been the kind of person to say,“It’s the thought counts”(貴在心意)when it comes to gifts. That was until a couple of weeks ago when my kids gave me a present that blew me away.

For years now. I’ve been wanting to sell our home, the place where my husband and I raised our kids. But to me,this house is much more than just building.

In the front room, there is a wall that has hundreds of pencil lines, marking the progress of my children’s growth. Every growth stage is marked in grey, with each child’s name and the date on which they were measured. Of all the objects and all the memories,It’s this one thing that’s the hardest to leave behind. Friends I know have returned home after work only to discover their wall of heights that has been freshly painted over. A new paint job wouldn’t normally be greeted by tears, but erasing that evidence(證據(jù))of motherhood hurts more than it should. Our kids grow in so many ways, but the wall is a piece of physical evidence of their progress, right there for everyone to see.

Over the years,I’ve talked about how much I would hate leaving that wall behind when I moved, even thought the last marks were made ten years ago when my kids stopped growing.

So one day,my children decided to do something about it.

They hired Jacquie Manning,a professional photographer whose work is about capturing(拍攝)the beautiful things in life, from clear lakes and skies to diamonds and ball gowns. She came to our house while I was at work, and over several hours, took photos of the hundreds of drawings and lines, little grey fingerprints and old marks. Somehow, she managed to photograph all those years of memories perfectly. Afterwards, she put all the photos together into one image(影像),turning them into a beautiful history of my family.

Three weeks later,my children’s wonderful gift made its way to me—a life-size-photo of the pencil lines and fingerprints that represents(代表)love and growth.

根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容判斷句子的正誤。正確的用“A”表示,不正確的用“B”表示。

Ellen Parker was worried about her health. She could not walk very quickly and it was difficult for her to climb stairs. She was soon out of breath and tired. “I think I had better go to the doctor,” she thought.

She went to the doctor and told him her problem. The doctor looked her over and then gave her some advice. “If you don't do as what I say, Mrs. Parker,” he said, “you will have a heart problem. It could kill you.”

Ellen Parker was very worried as she left the doctor's. She knew that she had to take his advice but it would not be easy and it would take time.

The next day she went shopping. Firstly, she walked into a big shop which sold meat. “I'd like ten pounds of meat, please,”she said. “Certainly, madam,” the seller answered and went into the cold room and found a large piece of meat. He brought the huge piece of meat back into the shop and put it on the scale(秤). “That’s just under ten pounds,”he said.

“That is big enough,”Mrs. Parker said. The seller worked out the price. “At $4.99 a pound, that will be $49.50, please. Would you like me to cut it up into smaller pieces for you?”

“Oh, I don't want to buy the meat,” Mrs. Parker said.

"If you don't want to buy it, "the seller answered angrily,”why did you ask me to get it for you?”

“My doctor told me that I am too heavy and I have to lose ten pounds. I wanted to see what ten pounds of meat looked like.”

1.Ellen Parker was quite heavy.

2.It was easy for her to climb stairs.

3.Ellen went to the doctor because she worried about her health.

4.Ellen didn't want to take the doctor's advice.

5.At last, Ellen bought the meat and took it away.

Eating less meat is becoming more common all over the world. In the US, for example, there is a campaign(運動)called Meatless Mondays. The idea is to have meatless meals every Monday. At the end of 2018, 230 middle and primary schools in the US had joined this campaign. These schools give students a vegetarian breakfast and lunch every Monday.

How did Meatless Mondays become part of food culture in the West? The first reason is that it's healthy. Many studies have shown that eating less meat is good for people's health. “Vegetarian diets can stop people from being fat or ill,” scientist Sharon Palmer said. "Even going meatless one day a week can make a difference.”

But it's not only about health. A study from Nature found that the greenhouse gases from animal products(產(chǎn)品)make up 78 percent of total agricultural(農(nóng)業(yè)的)emissions(排放). If we eat less meat, it will be better for the environment.

In March this year, New York Mayor(市長)Bill said that all public schools in New York City would join the Meatless Mondays campaign. Joining the campaign, he said, will help us stay healthy and keep the earth green for the future.

1.When can't many students eat meat in the US?
