【題目】 The other day Roy Price went "home" to his sister's house. It's her home now, but it's also the house he was born in. Pat, his sister kissed him and said, "You haven't changed much, Roy. ___自從上次見面后,我們有很多年沒見了。Let me see now. When did we meet last?"

"Twenty-five years ago," he answered. "I was here for a week. Do you remember?" He added.___"You haven't changed much, either." It was polite for Roy to say so, but it wasn't true. Pat seemed almost an old lady.

___The next morning, Roy walked through the village alone. The place looked very different. There were lots of traffic signs on that roads and beside the roads, there was a new car park, a new post office and a new bus stop. He remembered suddenly that the bus used to stop anywhere-you just put up your hand and it stopped. One surprise followed another. The railway station was gone! The school was gone. A lot of farm machinery stood in the playground!

___But Roy's biggest surprise was the people. He didn't recognize anybody at all, perhaps because everyone seemed old. He went into the post office and bought some stamps. "Where are all the children and young people?" he asked the postmaster.

The old fellow looked up from his book of stamps. "Children?" he said, "They are in school, of course. There are three or four young families here. The children go to school by bus-to Horham."

At lunch Pat said, "The village looks nice, doesn't it?"

"It's all different, Pat. It used to be an exciting place. ___但是現(xiàn)在村子里滿是老年人。I don't understand..."

"There are few newcomers, but the ones we knew are still here. You're also not young, Roy, are you?"

【解析】

本文主要講的是家鄉(xiāng)以及自己的變化。

1漢譯英。自從:since;上次:last time;見面:meet;我們:We;很多年:for many years;彼此相見:see each other。此題是由since引導(dǎo)的時(shí)間狀語從句,從句用一般過去時(shí)。主句用現(xiàn)在完成時(shí),其結(jié)構(gòu)是:have/has+動(dòng)詞的過去分詞。此題又是否定句。故答案為:We haven't seen each other for many years since we met last time.

2英譯漢。You:你;haven't changed much:沒有太大變化;either:也。故答案為:你也沒有太大變化。

3英譯漢。the next morning:第二天早上;Roy:羅伊;walked through the village:穿過村莊; alone:獨(dú)自一人。故答案為:第二天早上,羅伊獨(dú)自一人穿過村莊。

4英譯漢。but:但是;Roy's biggest surprise:最讓羅伊吃驚的;was:是;the people:這里的人。故答案為:但是最讓羅伊吃驚的是這里的人。

5漢譯英。但是:but;現(xiàn)在:now;村子里:the village;滿是老年人:be full of old people。此題的主語是the village,因此beis。故答案為:But now the village is full of old people.

【題目】 Internet use seems to cause a decline (下降) in psychological (心理的) health.

Even people who spent just a few hours a week on the Internet felt more depression (沮喪) and loneliness than those who spent little time on the Internet, the two-year study showed. And it wasn’t that people who were already feeling bad spent more time on the Internet, but that using the Internet seems to cause the bad feelings.

Scientists are surprised at the results. They were quite different from what they thought before. They thought that the Internet would make people psychologically healthier than TV, because users on the Internet are free to choose their information and to communicate with others.

However, the scientists also say, when people spend a lot of time or even all the day time on the Internet, there is no time left for them to be with their family and friends. They can’t have real conversations. Another possible reason is that people can see the outside world on the Internet and it makes them less satisfied with their lives.

判斷正(A)(B)

1Internet use seems to be bad for people’s psychological health.

2People are free to choose their information when watching TV.

3The more time you spend on the Internet, the less time you are with your family and friends.

4People are not satisfied with their lives so they spends lots of time on the Internet.

5The passage mainly talks about the influence that the Internet causes.

【題目】The Green Magic Tree House, in India, is the perfect hotel for anybody who likes adventure(冒險(xiǎn)). Guests must drive for miles through the jungle to find it in the middle of tea and coffeeplantation(種植園).

There are two tree houses to choose from, one 30 meters and the other 35 meters above the ground. Both houses have two floors. The bedrooms are above the living area and there are bathrooms and showers. You can get up to rooms and move between floors byusing ladders(梯子). Guests can enjoy moving through the jungle, climbing in the mountains, and watching wildlife. There are many unusual plants, birds, and insects in the area.

The Ice Hotel is in Jukkasjarvi, a village in Sweden 200 kilometers north of the Arctic(北極)Circle. Every winter, a team of architects(建筑師), designers and snow builders build the hotel. This year there are 80 rooms.

Everything is made of ice. The walls, the floors, the ceilings(頂棚), and even the furniture are made of ice. The beds are made of ice, too, but guests sleep on warm deer skins. Outside it can be -37℃, so inside it feels quite comfortable. The hotel has a bar, where guests can drink vodka(伏特加) from glasses made of ice. It's very popular — because there isn't much else to do.

To spend a night at Jules Underwater Lodge in Florida, guests need to scuba dive (潛水) seven meters under the sea. They enter a small house through a door at the bottom of the building. 【題目】 Fear may be in the heart as well as in the head, according to a study that has found a link between the cycles of a beating heart and the chance of someone feeling fear.

Tests on healthy volunteers found that they were more likely to feel a sense of fear at the moment when their hearts are contracting (收縮) and pumping blood around their bodies, compared with the point when the heartbeat is relaxed. Scientists say the results suggest that the heart is able to influence how the brain reacts to a fearful event, depending on which point it is at in its regular cycle of contraction and relaxation.

Sarah Garfinkel at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School said: "Our study shows for the first time that the way in which we deal with fear is different depending on when we see fearful pictures in relation to our heart."

The study tested 20 healthy volunteers on their reactions to fear as they were shown pictures of fearful faces. Dr. Garfinkel said, "The study showed that fearful faces are better noticed when the heart is pumping than when it is relaxed. Thus our hearts can also affect what we see and what we don't see-and guide whether we see fear."

To further understand this relationship, the scientists also used a brain scanner (掃描儀) to show how the brain influences the way the heart changes a person's feeling of fear.

"We have found an important mechanism by which the heart and brain 'speak' to each other to change our feelings and reduce fear, "Dr. Garfinkel said.

"We hope that by increasing our understanding about how fear is dealt with and ways that it could be reduced, we may be able to develop more successful treatments for anxiety (焦慮) disorders, and also for those who may be suffering from serious stress disorder."

1What is the finding of the study?

A.One's heart influences how he feels fear.

B.Fear is a result of one's heartbeat.

C.Fear can't be felt because of one's relaxed heartbeat.

D.One's fast heartbeats are likely to cause fear.

2The study was carried out by studying________.

A.volunteers' heartbeats when they saw terrible pictures

B.the time volunteers saw fearful pictures and their health conditions

C.volunteers' reactions to horrible pictures and results from their brain scans

D.different pictures shown to volunteers and their heartbrain communication

3Which of the following is closest in meaning to "mechanism" in Paragraph 6?

A.Order.B.System.C.Machine.D.Treatment.

4This study may contribute to________.

A.treating anxiety and stress better

B.explaining the cycle of fear and anxiety

C.finding the key to the heartbrain communication

D.understanding different fears in our hearts and heads

She has been playing Go for only three years. Before this, the woman was an expert at playing computer games. Now she plays Go the same way she played computer gamesby becoming a machine herself.
