W: Hi, I’d like one ticket for the jazz concert at seven o’clock.

M: I’m sorry, but there are no more tickets for tonight’s concert. But we do have some seats for the same performance this weekend. Are you interested in that show?

W: Oh, that’s a pity. I won’t be here then. I’m just here in Paris for a friend’s birthday celebration. And I’ll fly back to New York tomorrow. Do you have any other suggestions for things to do?

M: Well, why don’t you go to the museum instead? It’s nearby and they have a wonderful art collection of Chinese paintings. I just saw it myself last weekend.

W: That sounds like a good idea.

【題目】 I'm not a fast reader and I don't read as much as many other people, but reading is something I enjoy. It opens new worlds to me.

Recently I found Kobo, an online book store that allows me to buy e-books and read them on a device(設(shè)備) of my choice. I'm a girl living in Indonesia, where e-books are not available and I had to buy physical books (有形圖書) from Amazon in the past. There are two problems with it:

Shipping cost. Since I live far away from the United States, it costs a lot to Ship a book.

Shipping costs almost as much as the book itself.

Shipping time. It takes about three weeks for the books to arrive through postal mail.

Now with Kobo, I can eliminate those two problems. Not only does it cost less time and money to get the books, but also I prefer to read e-books this way than reading physical books. Here are three reasons why:

●I can easily bring the books everywhere. Since all the books are in my iPod touch, I can simply put the device into my pocket and bring it everywhere I go.

●The size is smaller. The size of the iPod Touch is smaller than a physical book. This makes reading more convenient(方便) for me,

●I can read in any position I want. The iPod has a light source, so I can read when I am in darkness. This means that I can read in practically any position and condition.

One more advantage I haven't mentioned is space. Physical books take space, but e-books don't.

1According to the article, Amazon is .

A.the name of a physical bookB.an online book store for physical books

C.the name of an e-bookD.an online book store in Indonesia

2The word "eliminate" most probably means " ".

3What are the problems with buying books from Amazon?

A.The books are very heavy.B.The writer has to go there by ship.

C.It costs more money and time.D.The books are very expensive.

4Which of the following is one of the reasons why the writer likes e-books?

A.E-books can be read almost anywhere.B.E-books are very fashionable.

C.E-books open new worlds to her.D.E-books help her read faster.

【題目】 Six years ago, Shilagh Mirgain decided to achieve the goal shed had on her bucket list(目標(biāo)清單)for twenty years: to reach the top of Mount Kilimjanjaro. Four years ago, she bought her hiking shoes and started to hike. Two years after that she began to imitate the difficulties of the nine-day hike with a weighted backpack. Last summer, she booked her tour. In February, she climbed to the very top of the mountain.

If it wasn't for her bucket list, Mirgain says she might never have known the pleasure of standing at top of one of the world's most famous mountains. Bucket lists are helpful in that they are a way of listening to your inner wisdom(智慧). She say,“Its so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day jobs, to-do lists, doing chores and the like—you may not see your inner need.”

One study found that participants who wrote down their goals finished more than those who didn't. Other positive psychology research suggests that finishing goals like that is important for a satisfying life.

For Mirgain, who added Kilimanjaro to her list after receiving a postcard sent from the mountain by a group of women she had met who were climbing it, it wasn't so much the act of writing down her bucket list that helped her stick to it, as it was keeping it someplace noticeable. “I keep pictures of my top bucket list things on my fridge,” she says, “When I finish something I take that photo down and put it on another board in my home, along with a photo of myself at that place.”

Mirgain said excitedly. “It’s great to finish your bucket list.” she says, “To work toward something you wanted to experience or achieve gives you a confidence and can change your opinion of the world.”

1In order to achieve her goal, Shilagh Mirgain______.

A.toured many places

B.had years of preparation

C.missed many important things

D.spent a lot of money on the things needed for the hiking

2Why should we make a bucket list?

A.It makes our work in order.

B.It helps others notice our intelligence.

C.It encourages us to follow our heart.

D.It can keep us away from daily chores.

3What is especially important for Shilagh Mirgain to stick to her goal?

A.Joining a group.

B.Her unshakable confidence.

C.Getting reminded of her goal often.

D.Encouragement from like-minded women.

4What is the text mainly about?

【題目】 For most people, it is easy to read faster. Your reading speed is just a matter of habit. At first, however, you may need to change your bad reading habits. It is important to pay attention when you read. Some people read books and watch TV at the same time. They can't concentrate on the reading material as well as the TV programs. A teacher once told me that I could learn anything well if I did three things: pay attention, pay attention and pay attention.

There are some simple things that you can do to pay better attention and get more from reading. Many researchers say that you will improve your reading ability if you preview the passage before you actually read every word of it. Previewing is a good way to improve your ability to pay attention.

To do a preview you should:

● spend 30-60 seconds;

● look at the title of the passage;

● look at the headings and subheadings. They are usually underlined, in italics (斜體字) or in dark print;

● look at the pictures, forms and explanations;

● read the first and last paragraphs quickly and glance(掃視) at the first sentence of each paragraph;

● close the book and ask yourself:

What is the main idea?

What kind of passage is it?

What is the author's purpose?

You might not think that you could do all these things in so little time, but if you do the preview correctly, you will have a good general idea of the passage. If you have a general idea, you will be able to understand and remember the passage better.

If you can preview better, your ability to pay attention will be better.

1The writer tells us how to preview in order to .

A. improve our ability to pay attention

B. help us read books as well as watch TV

C. make us read faster than before

D. teach us how to write a passage

2According to the passage, how many things should we do when we preview a passage?

A. 3.B. 6.C. 9.D. 12.

3What is the best title for the passage?

A. Reading AbilityB. Habits

C. Pay AttentionD. Preview
