In many British schools, the pupils usually wear their school uniforms to school on weekdays. However, recently the students at LVS Ascot Junior School in England wore something quite different. What they wore was what people wear when they go to bed — pyjamas (睡衣). They did this not only for fun, but for a local charity called Christopher’s Smile.

Christopher’s Smile was set up in 2008 by Karen & Kevin Capel whose only son Christopher died of cancer at a young age. They hope their charity will help pay for more research into children’s cancers. Since then, the charity has raised a lot of money and gotten more and more volunteers. Every year, thousands of people take part in different activities such as charity walk or run to show their support for Christopher’s Smile.

The students of Grade 6 at LVS Ascot Junior School also wanted to do something for the sick children. They organized the event “Pyjama Day” to support Christopher’s Smile. “We wanted to raise money for our charity in a way that the whole school could join in it, so each pupil paid £1 to wear his or her pyjamas to school on Pyjama Day,” said the young organizers. Xiao Bao performed on Asia Uncut, one of Asia’s largest English-language talk shows, in Shanghai on January 28, 2010.

Xiao Bao was born prematurely (早產(chǎn)) and weighed just a little more than 1 kg at birth. Doctors suggested that his mom should play music for him and encourage him to do more exercise. When Xiao Bao was about one year old, his mom found he liked moving his body to music, even to the songs of mobile phones. When Xiao Bao was two years old, his mom took him to the Baby Show, a TV program in Hebei Province where they lived. Xiao Bao performed quite well. The choreographer (舞蹈教練) advised his mom to take him to take dancing courses (課程). So, the mom quit her job and took Xiao Bao to a dancing class in Beijing. Xiao Bao learned street dance there. He later took part in the program “6+1” on July 19, 2009 and became a star.

“I took him to the dancing school and shows,” his mom said. “When you see him dancing, you will find how happy he is.”

On February 9th, 2013, Sarah Darling was walking along the street when she met a homeless man named Billy Ray Harris. She reached into her change purse, emptied out all the coins she had and gave them to the homeless man. Neither of them realized that this small generous act would change their lives.

Sarah didn’t realize that she had given Billy not only all her change but also her diamond ring that she had put in her change purse earlier until the following morning. She and her husband, Bill Krejci, rushed to see if they could find Billy. The homeless man was not only in the same place, he also immediately returned the ring. The grateful couple paid him back for his honesty by emptying out their pockets of all the money they had.

Bill Krejci, a web designer, felt that he needed to do something more for this amazingly honest man. So on February 18th, he set up a special page to raise money for him. In just four days, Billy received over $85,000 and there seems to be no end yet.

That is not enough. Billy is living with a person who is generous instead of living in the streets. And that’s not all—Thanks to the news report, he got together again with his older brother, Edwin Harris who he had been unable to find for 27 years.
