【題目】Read the passage and answer the following questions. ( 根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容完整回答下列問題):
Every child has a dream of what they want to be, right? When Renee Butts was young, her dream was to become a volunteer firefighter because her father was one. Sadly, when she was 14, her father died and was never able to volunteer with her. Renee’s story doesn’t end there. Finally she becomes a good firefighter.
Some days she must be ready to deal with any emergency (緊急事件), like fighting a fire, dealing with a car accident or helping someone who is sick. Other days she is in the driver’s seat. Sometimes Renee works nine to eleven days a month on 24-hour shifts. She also has a family to take care of. Her husband is a firefighter, too. Renee remembers the first time when she fought a fire. She was awoken early on a winter morning by the alarm. She said she was very nervous but did what she had to do.
When I asked Renee what the best part of her job was, she replied, “Helping people and saving their lives. ” I think that shows signs of being a true hero (英雄). She’s always glad to do anything for anyone in trouble. With 140 people in her station, Renee is one of the only three women.
I think she’s great. We could never live without people like her who are glad to help others. Renee’s deed helps me believe that I can do anything. I hope some day to be just like her: always be ready to help people in trouble every day.
【1】What was Renee’s dream?
【2】Does her dream come true?
【3】She needs to be ready to deal with a car accident, doesn’t she?
【4】When did she fight a fire for the first time?
【5】How many women are there in her station?

【題目】閱讀短文,根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答問題。
How I Turned to Be Optimistic
I began to grow up that winter night when my parents told me that we might soon be leaving for America. We were on the bus then.I was crying, and all the people on the bus were turning around to look at me.I remember I could not bear the thought of never hearing again the radio programs for school children to which I listened every morning.
I do not remember myself crying for this reason again. In fact, I think I cried very little when I was saying goodbye to my friends and relatives. When we were leaving I thought about all the places I was going to see—the strange and magical places I had known only from books and pictures. The country I was leaving was hardly in my head then.
The four years that followed taught me the importance of optimism, but the idea did not come to me at once. For the first two years in New York, I was really lost—having to study in three schools as a result of family moves.I did not quite know what I was or what I should be.Mother remarried, and things became even more difficult for me.Some time passed before my stepfather and I got used to each other.I was often sad, and saw no end to “hard times”.
My responsibilities (責(zé)任) in the family increased a lot because I knew English better than everyone else at home.I wrote letters, filled out forms, took my grandparents to the doctor, and even discussed telephone bills with company representatives (代表).
From my experiences I have learned one important rule: almost all common troubles eventually (逐漸地) go away! Something good is certain to happen in the end when you do not give up, and just wait a little! I believe that my life will turn out all right, even though it will not be that easy.
【1】Did the writer feel happy when she first knew that her family might soon be leaving for America?
【2】How did the writer get to know America before she went there?
【3】What made the writer feel lost for the first two years in New York?
【4】Why did the writer's responsibilities in the family increase a lot?

Jane was on her way home at around 6 o'clock. It was getting dark. As she drove into her community, she noticed a man.
She saw the man walking along the sidewalk next to some houses. He didn't live in any of those houses. She had seen this man several times before. He looked like a criminal (罪犯).
She drove by him. He looked at her car as she drove by. She continued driving and watched him in her rear view mirror (后視鏡). She got to the corner and stopped. She continued to watch him walking in her direction. Suddenly, he turned left up a driveway (車道). A red SUV was parked in the driveway right next to the sidewalk. She saw him walk up to the driver's door and put his hand on the handle (把手). Then he returned to the sidewalk and went on to walk in her direction.
"What is that all about?" Jane wondered. Then she realized that he had tested the door to see if it was locked. "He is a criminal," she thought. "That's what he does. He just walks in our neighborhood looking for cars to break into."
She called the police and described the man. The police officer said he knew who the man was. The people in the community called two or three times this week to report him walking by. But the police couldn't arrest him for walking around unless they caught him with stolen things. "But he was testing that SUV door to see if it was unlocked," she said.
"I'm sorry," said the officer. "That's not against the law. If you see him actually steal something, please give us a call."
