【題目】閱讀下面短文, 按要求完成下列各題。

Peter was an inventor. His job was to invent new things, and he worked when he had an idea. His workroom was in his house, so he could work whenever he wanted to. Sometimes he worked seven days a week and sometimes he didn’t work for days. He did all his work right at home, but he left the house to go to meetings sometimes.

Peter usually got up at about five o’clock. He made some tea and started to work at six. He drank tea all day--he couldn’t work without it --but he didn’t eat anything until in the evening.

First, Peter cleaned the workroom and turned on the answer-phone because he couldn’t talk to people when he had an idea. Then he started to work. He usually had a rest after two or three hours, but he didn’t leave the workroom. He did something different to help him relax. Sometimes he did some exercise, and sometimes he listened to music. He usually stopped working at about nine o'clock in the evening. He thought about his work most of the time, even when he was out. He was interested in what was around him and he liked looking for new ideas and new problems to solve.

1What was Peter?(根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答間題)

_____________________________________________________________

2Why did Peter turn on the answer-phone?(根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答問(wèn)題)

【題目】Imagine sailing to over twenty different ports(港口)around the world while you are studying subjects you love! Impossible? Well, that is what the students in Class Afloat do.

Class Afloat is a Canadian school on a tall ship! The ship is sixty-four metres long and nine metres wide and it can take up to sixty students. The classrooms are well-equipped(設(shè)備精良)and comfortable and there's even a library! There is no need to know anything about sailing-students can learn on the ship.

Not all the students are Canadian-there's usually a mix of nationalities(國(guó)籍).This year, there are also students from Mexico, the USA, Germany and Turkey. There's a mix of ages too. There are secondary school students-first year university students and students who are doing a gap year(休學(xué)年)programme.

The teachers design special study programmes for each student. Because the school is a ship, you can do some exciting courses-for example, Marine Biology(studying the animals and plants in the sea) and History or Geography courses about the places you visit. Students also learn all about sailing! All the classes are in English, so you must have a good level of English.

Students don't just study. They must also clean, cook and sail the ship, in their free time, students can rest, read or watch a film. In the evenings, they relax with friends, have club meetings and sometimes they have a karaoke night.

Every sixteen to twenty days, the ship stops in a port for three to six days. In port there're lots to do-home stays, camping trips, museum tours, cultural events, hiking, etc. They also go snorkeling and do other water sports. Parents can meet up with the students in one port every term.

Students also take part in two volunteer programmes in Senegal(塞內(nèi)加爾)and the Dominican Republic(多明尼加共和國(guó)). They help local families in different ways, for example, with basic health matters or starting a business. Students learn how, with just a little money and time, they can make changes that improve other people's lives.

【題目】 The sound of the rain hitting the windows wakes me up and it sounds just exactly as it did 15 years ago, which made me think of my girlhood.

It was my second day of school and it was raining heavily. I couldn't get away from the habit I had at home, so I fell asleep right at my desk. I woke up to find myself not in the classroom but carried on Dad's back. We were halfway home. It was the last time I felt close to him.

After that, he never carried me or hugged (擁抱) me as other fathers did to their children. I was not troubled by this thought. I was proud of it, for I felt independent (獨(dú)立的) and "grown up". However, there were times when I felt sad for not having got comfort from him,

One day, I was writing Chinese characters as my homework. I hated doing this more than anything. Dad came and stood behind me for a moment, watching me scrawling (潦草地寫) on the paper. Then he said, "This kind of writing needs patience. Your writing is not strong enough. Press harder. "

I followed his advice for the next two weeks, but as: I could see little improvement (改進(jìn)), I followed my own method-the fast way. His advice didn't improve my writing but our relationship. As I grew older, I found out that he had finished his schooling in Grade 6, which was the highest grade in town then, so he was considered to be a scholar (學(xué)者). People used to ask him to write something to put on the walls, but he never felt very useful.

He often said to me, "As you can see, this family is going to count on you. We are useless to improve anything for your future. You have to get an education to change the life for yourself. " As a result of his expectations, I have made it through high school and college.
