Passage 4 (2015江蘇泰州靖江,四)

    閱讀短文,按要求完成短文后的各項任務。

    (1) I was only an 11-year-old girl when my parents told me that we would soon move to America. We were on the bus then.Iwascry-ing,and some people on the bus were turning around to look at me.I remember that. I could not bear (忍受) the thought of never hearing the radio program for school children again which I listened to every morning.

In fact,1 think I cried very little when I was saying goodbye to my friends and relatives. When we were leaving,I even felt a little excited because I thought about all the places I was going to see—the strange and magical places T had known only from books and pictures.

The first four years in America taught me the importance of optimism ,but the idea did not come to me at once. For the first two years in New York I was really lost—having to study in three schools and 1(2)  most of my time ( 2 )  learning the English language.I hardly had any time for fun. Sometimes I did not quite know what I was or what I should be. Mother remarried (再 婚) ,and things became even harder for me.It took me some time to get used to my stepfather (繼父) . 1 was often sad,and saw no end to “the hard times”.

I had to do many things for the family since I knew English better than everyone else at home.I wrote letters, filled out forms, translated (SI ) all kinds of information and took my grandparents to the doctor and translated there.

Luckily, things got better and better later and almost all common troubles went away at last. From those experiences I have learned one important rule : Something good is certain to happen in the end when you do not give up,and just wait a little while!

A group's IQ (智商) ,we might think, would be simply ihe average intelligence (平均智力) of the group's members,or perhaps the intelligence of the group's smartest member. But some scientists have found that this isn’t so.

A group's intelligence comes out from communications that go on within the group.A group's intelligence can be calculated, and like the IQ grades of a single person, and it can predict the group^ performance on lots of kinds of tasks perfectly.Just like a single person's intelligence can be trained and developed,a group^ intelligence can also he increased. Here are some suggestions on how to guide the development of smart groups :

And then it's better for you to talk about the 44howGroups who take the time to discuss how they will work together are more well-organized and successful.

As a group member,it is also very important for you to share (分 享) the floor in the formal (正式的) meetings. The members who just control the discussion or who stay away and don't say much make the intelligence of the group lower. But in the smart group, members connect directly with each other, not just with the group leader. They always take an active part in every small conversation that could be added to the main discussion.Outside of formal meetings, the smartest groups spend a lot of time communicating, too. All members can havea coffee break at the same time, leading them to do their work more professionally and feel more pleased with their jobs.
