Like many girls,Ma Xiaoyi likes to keep a diary. But the Junior 3 student also likes to write something more unusual： poems.
She reads and writes poems every day at school.Many are romantic (浪漫的) .And some have even been published (出版) .
Ma is one of many “student poets (詩人) ” in her school. From this term on,her school is’having a special poetry class. 4<We are not training future poets ,” said Zhang Yingjing,the school's headmaster. t4We just hope the class makes students more creative”.
The class has 56 poem-loving students in it. They get half a day's teaching every week from Zhu Tiewu,a poet from the Shanghai City Poets Group.
Students will study both old and new poems,says Zhu. These will come from both China and foreign countries. .
But are students interested in poems today? Yes. According to a study of 90 students at the school,about half of them read poems and about a third want to be poets.
l am learning about poems not because I want to be a poet,but because poems teach me a lot about life”，said Ma. Yang Shuyan,another student,thinks poem lessons are more interesting than Chinese lessons. “Poets are full of imagination (想象 力) . In poem lessons,we have to use heads. Learning about poems helps me write better”’ Yang said.
