Big telecommunications companies such as Huawei, Samsung and Qualcomm have announced their latest fifth generation (5G) products. They have also announced that 5G technology would be widely used by 2020, causing some experts to say the “5G epoch” is coming. Yet, when reporting about 5G, many reporters only described it as a “much faster” technology than 4G. As a result, what people know about 5G is that they could “download a movie within one second”.

Actually, 5G technology has many more advantages than 4G besides the speed. It can be used for at least two purposesfor connecting everything and removing delays(消除網(wǎng)絡(luò)延時).

Connecting everything is one of the strongest functions of 5G. It makes the Internet Things possible. Take driverless smart cars as an example. 5G technology can connect all parts of a transportation system including traffic lights, CCTV cameras and cars to build up perfect coordination(協(xié)調(diào)). In this way, these cars can avoid obstacles(障礙) and move on driving routes, which will help improve self-driving technology.

And removing delays might be useful especially in online games. Even long after 4G technology was introduced, players still worried about losing games because of low speed. This problem can be solved with 5G technology, because it will make sure of continuous high speed.

And for those people who think that 5G costs will be very high, they need not worry. Compared with 4G macro base station, a 5G macro base station can provide service to more users. Factories can produce more macro base stations to allow more people to use. The more users, the lower cost. Therefore, 5G technology won’t cost as much as they thought.

1The underlined word “epoch” in Para 2 means ________.

A.技術(shù)B.時代C.設(shè)備D.訊號

25G technology can help improve self-driving technology because ________.

A.it makes the self-driving car run much faster

B.it helps to connect the cars with the Internet

C.it helps the cars avoid obstacles and move on driving routes

D.it helps the cars control the traffic lights and CCTV cameras

3Factories can produce more macro base stations so that ________.

A.people can pay less for 5GB.5G can be compared with 4G

C.the “5G epoch” can come soonerD.few people can enjoy the 5G technology

4According to the passage, we can know that ________.

A.people know a lot about 5G

B.5G is much faster but more expensive than 4G

C.connecting everything is the strongest function of 5G

D.online game players can enjoy continuous high speed of 5G

5What’s the main idea of the passage?

A.The “5G Epoch” is coming.B.The latest 5G products have been invented.

C.5G technology costs less with higher speed.D.5G technology is more than about high speed.

They have also announced that 5G technology would be widely used by 2020, causing some experts to say the “5G epoch” is coming.

In this way, these cars can avoid obstacles(障礙) and move on driving routes, which will help improve self-driving technology.

Factories can produce more macro base stations to allow more people to use. The more users, the lower cost. 故選A。

A. people know a lot about 5G.根據(jù)上文“when reporting … only described it as a “much faster” technology than 4G, …5G is that they could “download a movie within one second”.可知人們對5G的了解甚少,只知道它的速度快。所以此項(xiàng)說法錯誤,排除A;B. 5G is much faster but more expensive than 4G.根據(jù)上文 5G technology won’t cost as much as they thought. 5G技術(shù)的成本不會像他們想象的那么高。所以此項(xiàng)說法錯誤,排除B;C. connecting everything is the strongest function of 5G. 根據(jù)上文Connecting everything is one of the strongest functions of 5G. 連接一切是5G最強(qiáng)的功能之一。所以此項(xiàng)說法錯誤,排除C;D. online game players can enjoy continuous high speed of 5G. 根據(jù)上文This problem can be solved with 5G technology, because it will make sure of continuous high speed. 這個問題可以用5G技術(shù)解決,因?yàn)樗鼘⒋_保連續(xù)高速?芍苏f法正確,故選D。

5主旨大意題。根據(jù)上文Actually, 5G technology has many more advantages than 4G besides the speed.

Does Fame Drive You Crazy?

Although being famous might sound like a dream come true, today's star, feeling like zoo animals, face pressures that few of us can imagine. They are at the center of much of the world's attention. Paparazzi (狗仔隊(duì)) camp outside their homes, cameras ready. Tabloids (小報(bào)) publish thrilling stories about their personal lives. Just imagine not being able to do anything without being photographed or interrupted for a signature.

According to psychologist Christina Villareal, celebrities—famous people—worry constantly about their public appearance. Eventually, they start to lose track of who they really are, seeing themselves the way their fans imagine them, not as the people they were before everyone knew their names. "Over time," Villareal says, "they feel separated and alone."

The phenomenon of tracking celebrities has been around for ages. In the 4th century B.C., painters followed Alexander the Great into battle, hoping to picture his victories for his admirers. When Charles Dickens visited America in the 19th century, his sold-out readings attracted thousands of fans, leading him to complain about his lack of privacy. Tabloids of the 1920s and 1930s ran articles about film-stars in much the same way that modern tabloids and websites do.

Being a public figure today, however, is a lot more difficult than it used to be. Superstars cannot move about without worrying about photographers with modern cameras. When they say something silly or do something ridiculous, there is always the Internet to spread the news in minutes and keep their "story" alive forever.

If fame is so troublesome, why aren't all celebrities running away from it? The answer is there are still ways to deal with it. Some stars stay calm by surrounding themselves with trusted friends and family or by escaping to remote places away from big cities. They focus not on how famous they are but on what they love to do or whatever made them famous in the first place.

Sometimes a few celebrities can get a little justice. Still, even stars who enjoy full justice often complain about how hard their lives are. They are tired of being famous already.

1It can be learned from the passage that stars today ________.

A.are often misunderstood by the publicB.care little about how they have come into fame

C.spend too much on their public appearanceD.can no longer have their privacy protected

2What is the main idea of Paragraph 3?

A.Great heroes of the past were generally admired.

B.Well-known actors are usually targets of tabloids.

C.The problem faced by celebrities has a long history.

D.Works of popular writers often have a lot of readers.

3What makes it much harder to be a celebrity today?

A.Lack of favorable chances.B.Not enough social recognition.

C.Availability of modern media.D.Huge population of fans.

4What is the author's attitude toward modern celebrity?

A.Sincere.B.Sympathetic.

C.Disapproving.D.Unbelieving.

True or False:

These two letters appeared in a newspaper. Both writers have their own ideas on zoos.

Zoos Do a Good Job

It is good to keep animals in zoos. I know a lot of people think it is wrong to keep animals in zoos. However, I believe that zoos have many good points.

Firstly, zoos are places for people to see many different kinds of animals from all over the world. Without zoos, most people would never see a real bear or tiger.

Secondly, zoos look after the animals very well. The animals are always given food and cleaned regularly. In the wild, it is not always possible for an animal to find food, so sometimes it goes hungry. But animals kept in zoos never go hungry.

Thirdly, zoos protect the animals they look after. They offer them safe places to live in. In the wild, some kinds of animals are in danger of being extinct. But zoos give these animals a chance to live. Without zoos, there'd be fewer kinds of animals in the world.

Maria

Smith

Zoos Are Unnatural

In Maria's letter, she says that zoos are good for animals. I am afraid that zoos are not good for animals; they are only good for people.

It is unnatural and unfair to keep wild animals in cages. Most animals are kept in cages that are too small for them. In the wild, these animals would travel freely. In zoos, they can't do this. This is why the bears and tigers always look so sad.

Most cages are not very clean either. It is true that zoos give the animals food regularly, but this is not natural. Wild animals are used to looking for their own food. We should treat animals in the same way that we treat other people--with respect.

Would anyone be happy if you don't let him go outside his home? Would Maria like to have lots of people standing outside her flat looking at her? No, she wouldn't. And animals don't like it either.

Philip

Black

1Maria and Philip have quite different ideas on keeping animals in zoos.

2In Maria's opinion, a real bear or tiger can only be seen in zoos.

3Maria thinks that animals live better in zoos than in the wild.

4According to Philip, cages are not big enough, so tigers and bears look unhappy.

5Philip thinks that zoos don't give the animals food regularly so it is not natural.

6Maria and Philip both agree that zoos are good for people.

7In the two letters, they are discussing how to make animals in zoos happy.
