【題目】 Do you know why different animals or pests(昆蟲) have their special colors? Their colors seem to be used mainly to protect themselves.

Some birds like eating locusts(蝗蟲),but birds cannot easily catch them. Why? It is because locusts change their colors together with the change of colors of crops. When crops are green, locusts look green. But as the harvest time comeslocusts change to the same brown colors as crops have. Some other pests with different colors from plants are easily found and eaten by others. So they have to hide themselves for lives and appear only at night.

If you study the animal life, you will find the main use of colors is to protect themselves. Bears, lions and other animals move quietly through forests. They cannot be easily seen by hunters. This is because they have the colors much like the trees.

Have you ever noticed an even stranger act? A kind of fish in the sea can send out a kind of very black liquid when they face danger. While the liquid spreads over(散開)their enemies cannot find them. And they immediately swim away. So they have lived up to now though they are not strong at all.

A.they live in forests

B.they have the colors much like the trees

C.they move quietly

4Why can the fish mentioned(提到) in the last paragraph live up to now?

【題目】 Talking to yourself doesn't mean you're crazy. It's probably that you’re talking to yourself throughout the day whether you're aware of it or not like. “I'm going to be late!” If you say such sentences, you're on the right side of science-there are actually lots of benefits of talking to yourself.

It's confirmed that expressing some inner thoughts out loud can actually help you better master the present and future and is something we should all start doing.Lisa Ferentz, a clinical social worker and psychotherapist, employs this practice most often when it comes to helping her patients develop a positive outlook about themselves and the day ahead. There's nothing more important than the way we talk to ourselves because that inner monologue (獨白) informs all our thoughts, emotional states and behavioral choices,” she says.If you're always critical, judgmental, or facing the day with a negative attitude, you're making it pretty hard for yourself to see positivity.

A good way to adopt a healthy mental state is to come up with something that you're grateful for, your own strengths, and positive affirmations to cheer yourself up; then stand in front of a mirror and say those things out loud.If you feel silly, don' t give up.Once you practice it from a positive place, you discover it's quite easy to do.It guides our life whether we're aware of it or not In fact, one study from the University of Lethbridge found that students who were taught how to engage in positive self-talk were able to change their perspectives, attitudes and reactions.Sure enough, talking to yourself is one of the signs you're actually smarter than you realize.

That doesn't mean you can't speak out your frustrations.Just like there's a place for positive self-talk, there's also a place for negative if you do it the right way."There s definitely a value to understanding what you're feeling whether it's positive or negative, says Ferentz.Bringing the negative thing you're thinking and feeling to the surface then gives you the opportunity to re-evaluate it."Once you voice what's worrying you, try asking yourself if it's useful to keep holding on to those thoughts or if it's something you can let go of.

So next time you hold a little two-way conversation with yourself, don't worry. It's perfectly OK.In fact, science approves of it!

【題目】 Everyone has traits (特性) that make us who we are. We have physical traits, like red hair, long legs and funny-looking toes. We also have character traits including humor, warmth, creativity and so on.

Certain physical traits are fully inherited (遺傳), such as blue eyes and knobby knees. About 25,000 to 35,000 genes (基因) are in a single cell in the human body. These genes carry the traits that are passed down genetically from parents to their children.

Many traits exist between inheritance and development — the interaction with environment. One example is body shape. It tends to be passed down from parents. But once diet becomes a factor, environment begins to play an important role in how the body develops. Body shape is a trait that is a mixture of inheritance from parents and influence of environment.

So lots of our most important traits have been learned, rather than inherited. For example, if you’re really great at video games, it’s not because your parents passed down the skills in genes. It’s because you have practiced a lot of video games and developed those skills yourself. If you have kids who turn out to be great at video games, it is because they put in the hours, learned the skills, and memorized the moves that are necessary to play the video games well.

Of course, some of us have brains that are more advantageous to video game playing. Say you were born with a large and powerful part of the brain that controls your hand-eye coordination. That is inherited. What you do with it, how you choose to develop that advantage, is up to you.

You can pierce your nose or get a tattoo (紋身) — it doesn’t matter how much you change your body during the lifetime. None of those things will turn into genetic material to be passed down to the next generation. However, if your children grow up in an environment with role models who are pierced and covered in tattoos, they are more likely to get piercings and tattoos!

1 is a physical trait that is fully inherited.

A.The eye colorB.The special diet

C.The body shapeD.The pierced nose

2What does the underlined word “That ” refer to ?

A.Video game playing.B.Advantageous brains.

C.The shape of your brain.D.Your hand-eye coordination.

3According to the passage, the writer believes that .

A.character traits can hardly change during the lifetime

B.the skills of video game playing are passed down to kids

C.a kid’s hand-eye coordination isn’t related to inheritance

D.environment plays an important role in traits development

4Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?

A.Why are Traits Important?B.How does Inheritance Influence Traits?

C.Where do Traits Come from?D.What are Physical and Character Traits?
