How fit are your teeth? Are you lazy about brushing them? Never fear: An inventor is on the case. An electric toothbrush senses how long and how well you brush, and it lets you track(監(jiān)測(cè)) your performance on your phone.

The Kolibree toothbrush was exhibited at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week. It senses how it is moved and can send the information to an Android phone or iPhone via a Bluetooth wireless connection.

The toothbrush will be able to teach you to brush in a right way and make sure you’re brushing long enough. “It’s kind of like having a dentist actually watch your brushing.” says Thomas Serval, the French inventor.

The toothbrush will also be able to talk to other apps on your phone, so developers could, for example, create a game controlled by your toothbrush. You could score points for beating monsters(怪物) among your teeth. “We try to make it smart but also fun,” Serval says.

Serval says he was inspired by his experience as a father. He would come home from work and ask his kids if they had brushed their teeth. They said “yes,” but Serval would find their toothbrush heads dry. He decided he needed a brush that really told him how well his children brushed.

The company says the Kolibree will go on sale this summer, from $99 to $199, depending on features.

Serval says that one day, it’ll be possible to replace(代替) the brush on the handle with a brushing unit that also has a camera. The camera can even examine holes in your teeth while you brush.

Dear mum and dad,

I’m writing this letter to you from the center of Australia. At the moment we’re staying near Uluru—that’s the aboriginal(土著) name for Ayers Rock. On the first day, we took a balloon tour over the rock, and I was surprised at how big it was: 3.6 kilometers long and 384 meters high. The colors of the rock are fantastic, and at different times of the day, they change from purple to red. The Aborigines are the first people of Australia, and the ancient aboriginal stories describe the spirits that created the world. Uluru is a center of Aboriginal culture.

The Australians have many British relatives. That’s why they’re like us in many ways. Their family life is similar to ours, and they enjoy the same food and hobbies. The food and drink that most Australians like are grapes, lamb, ham and especially wine that they make in the south of the country. They love all sports, but football is the most popular. Most Australians live near the coast, so they also love going to the beach, swimming and surfing.

Although it’s December, it’s summer over here. The sunshine is very bright, and near the coast the countryside is very green. There are lots of sheep in the fields and on the hills, but the outback(澳洲內(nèi)陸) is more like a desert, full of rocks and sand.

The next day after we arrived at Uluru, we went on a camel(駱駝) ride. The camel that I rode had a bad temper. When I sat on its back, it became very angry and refused me. So everyone else thought it was very funny that my camel kept lying down…

Finally, later this evening, we’re taking the plane back to Sydney and coming home, it’s been a fantastic trip!

Memory is essential(重要) for life. We have a short-term memory and a long-term memory. When we get old, our short-term memory becomes weaker, but we can still remember things that happened a long time ago. There are many things we can do to improve our memory, such as using various memorizing methods as well as taking special care of our health.

It is important that we regularly stimulate(刺激) our brain to make our memory more efficient(有效). For example, we can do activities that we do not usually do and change our daily habits. Learning a new skill helps our brain develop.

When trying to memorize something, we should focus our attention on the most important things about it. Do not allow other thoughts to enter our mind because this will lower our chances of remembering things correctly.

One basic way of improving our memory is to use the link method. If we want to memorize something, we should make a picture in our mind. If the picture is silly, strange and colourful, we will remember it better.

Taking notes, being organized and keeping a diary will also be useful tools.

Sometimes, memory is connected with our feelings. When something dramatic happens, we usually remember it well, and we also remember where we were and what we were doing.

Healthy food and plenty of vitamins are important to our memory. Drinking a lot of water also helps maintain our memory.

When we are asleep, our brain stores memory. Not enough sleep can, therefore, cause problems with storing information. In addition, being tired will stop us from being able to remember well. As a result, keeping fit and having regular health checks are both important as well.

1.How does people’s memory change when they get older?

A. The short-term memory becomes stronger.

B. The short-term memory becomes weaker.

C. The long-term memory becomes stronger.

D. The long-term memory becomes weaker.

2. According to the passage, which of the following CANNOT be remembered better in a short time?

A. A strange insect.

B. A colourful letter.

C. A dramatic event.

D. A boring talk.

3.When people try to remember the word ‘smiles’, an easy way to do this is to imagine there is a ‘mile’ between the first letter and the last letter. This is because they .

A. use the link method

B. connect it with feelings

C. have a good rest

D. take some notes

4.What SHOULD people do when they try to make their memory more efficient?

A. Always do the same things and never change their daily habits.

B. Memorize something while listening to music or watching TV.

C. Keep other ideas out of their mind when focusing attention.

D. Sleep at most 6 hours a day and drink a lot of coffee or tea.

5.What’s the best title of this passage?

A. How to Use Memory Tools

B. How to Keep Long-term Memory

C. How to Improve Our Memory

D. How to Stay Healthy
