      Once a week a nurse visits Tom ’ s school and teaches the students how to help people who suddenly become ill or who have had an accident. It is most important to use antiseptic. If you do not,then dirt and bacteria may get into the wound and cause an infection. If the injury is large and the amount of blood coming from it is also large ? then it is necessary to stop the blood flowing through the blood vessel. We do this by putting pressure on the vessel above the injury. We can either press on it with our fingers or put on a tourniquet,which is a piece of cloth tied tightly around the arm ? leg ? or finger.
