Living in the Yukon
The Yukon is different from most places. It is a part of Canada. The Yukon is bigger than California. Not many people live in the Yukon. There are some good reasons for that.
The winters in the Yukon are very cold. Sometimes the temperature goes down to 40°F below zero. Cars won' t start in such cold air. People have to keep a fire going near the car.
Homes in the Yukon are usually log cabins (茅屋) . There are no electric lights or telephones in most of the Yukon. Water may have to be carried from a creek(小溪) . A home can be hundreds of miles from the nearest town.
Living in the Yukon is certainly not easy. Some people from the U. S. move there anyway. A man and his wife lived in a big town in New Jersey and moved to the Yukon. They like the open space there. They are getting used to new adventures(冒險(xiǎn)).
One day the woman noticed some sugar spilled in her kitchen. She thought she heard her husband outside, and she went to ask him about the sugar. She came face to face with a black bear. The bear was growling and coming closer. She shut the door fast. “That doesn't happen much in New Jersey”, she said.
