In this age of Facebook and Twitter, we are all supposed to have hundreds of friends. But in fact most of us have just two close friends — down from an average(平均水平) of three 25 years ago, a study says.

Researchers (研究者) say there is no need to worry about that. Instead, they say that while some of us may be getting “more vulnerable (脆弱的)”, many are becoming better at deciding who is their close friend.

The result seems unexpected. Because a lot of young people are trying to make as many “friends” as possible on the Internet.

According to Facebook, the average user usually has 130 friends, but many of these are people who are known by accident or people the user will never meet in real life.

But the researcher, Mr. Brashears says, although the circle(圈子) of friends is getting smaller, which may make us more vulnerable, we’re not as “l(fā)onely” as the result shows.

For his study, Mr. Brashears did a survey in more than 2,000 adults aged 18 and older. He found that, modern discussion networks have been smaller in size. It is the same as other researchers’ findings, but few people have become lonelier.

Researchers asked people to list the names of people they had discussed important matters with over the past six months. About 48% of them listed one name, 18 % listed two, and about 29% listed more than two names for these close friends.

On average, one person had 2.03 close friends. And just over 4% of them didn’t list any names.

1According to the study, how many close friends do most of us have?

A.25.B.2.C.3.

2The underlined word “unexpected” probably means “________” in the passage.

A.有趣B.

3About Facebook friends, which of the following is TRUE?

A.The Facebook user never meet some Facebook friends in real life.

B.The average user usually has 310 friends.

C.Facebook friends are all old and close friends.

4The passage shows the result of the survey by ________.

A.giving adviceB.telling storiesC.listing numbers

5What does the passage mainly talk about?

A.Many people are worrying about their circle of friends.

B.Researchers find many people have only two close friends.

C.Young people make as many friends as possible on the Internet.

根據(jù)第一段“But in fact most of us have just two close friends”但事實(shí)上,我們大多數(shù)人只有兩個(gè)親密的朋友。

由第四段第一句“the average user usually has 130 friends, ”普通用戶通常有130個(gè)好友? 根據(jù)“but many of these are people who are known by accident or people the user will never meet in real life.” 故A項(xiàng)正確,故選A。

“What is the meaning of life?” This is a question that we all ask ourselves at one point or another. It is a question that I have asked myself many times over the years. The best answer that I ever came across was written by the great psychologist(心理學(xué)家), Viktor Frankl. Frankl wrote that “The meaning of life is to give life meaning.”

When I was a young boy I gave my life meaning by simply playing, running, jumping, swimming, laughing, and riding my bike. When I went to school I gave my life meaning by learning, studying hard, getting good grades and trying to make my mom and dad proud.

When I was a teenage boy I found meaning in playing sports, hanging out with my friends, and trying to impress (給……

In college I found my meaning by deciding what I wanted to study and what career(職業(yè)) I wanted to prepare for.

When I was working as a teacher I found meaning in helping to open young minds to new ideas and old wisdom.

When I married and had children I found meaning in protecting, providing for, and watching over those I loved.

As I got older, I began to realize that meaning isn’t something that comes and goes: We can give meaning to every moment of our lives here. We can bring meaning to the things we do. We can bring meaning to the hearts we touch.

All we have to do is love. It is love that gives life meaning. It is love that makes life worth(值得) living.

1According to the great psychologist, what is the meaning of life?
