Google and Toyota(豐田)have worked together to create a new smart car. It can run on the road without a driver. It drives itself.

The self-driving(自駕的)car hasn’t been on sale to the public, so we don’t know how much it costs. Another thing that most people want to know is whether it will be safe enough to run on the road.

The self-driving car uses electricity as its power, and it can’t drive very quickly—the top speed would be 25 miles per hour. It is actually controlled by a computer system in the car. The system keeps on collecting information by some video cameras inside the car. A computer receives the information and decides what to do.

“The self-driving car has only buttons (按鈕) for go and stop, so it’s very easy to use.” an engineer of Google says, “It will make car accidents less and the world safer.” The self-driving car has traveled hundreds of thousands of miles in California, and it has only gotten into two accidents by human mistake.

More and more people around the world are joining in dangerous sports. Some people climbed the highest mountains; some traveled into unknown parts of the world. Some sailed small boats across the largest sea. Now some people begin to look for new excitement.

Bungee jumping(蹦極) and motorcycle racing are quite dangerous sports. Bungee jumping only lasts for a few minutes or even seconds. You jump from a high place, about 200 meters above the ground, and there is a rubber band (橡膠帶子) tied to your legs. When you jump down, the rubber band pulls you up. About 2,000,000 people around the world have tried bungee jumping.

Why do people join in these dangerous sports? Some scientists say that it is because modern life has become safe and it is not interesting. In the past, people lived in danger. They had to go out and look for food, and life was like a fight but was interesting.

Many people think that there is little excitement in life. They live and work in safe places, buy food in shops, and there are doctors and hospitals to look after them if they become ill.

China is a country with many colorful days and festivals. The Dragon Head Raising Day (“Longtaitou” in Chinese) is one of them.

This special day is on the second day of the second month in the Chinese lunar calendar(陰歷). It stands for the start of spring and farming. This year, the day falls on Feb 27th.

“I want this report before Sunday! Your deadline!” Robin, my boss, shouted at me as usual. On a Friday evening, that meant my weekend plans would be destroyed.

I was disappointed and upset. I couldn’t go on with my work. I decided to leave for the day and come early to work on Saturday morning. What was worse, I couldn’t get my car going. So I decided to take a taxi. As I got close to the road, I became more disappointed. Why always me? I had no reason to smile or be happy.

While I was waiting, I saw a little girl in a dirty and dusty shirt under a tiny roof(屋檐) nearby. Her hair looked untidy. She was playing with a puppy on her lap. Puppy was a street dog just like the girl. Both of them appeared happy with each other.

I had not thought about my office, my disappointment and my unhappiness even for a moment since watching this little girl. She had nothing that I had. However, she had what I lacked(缺乏)—the spirit to be happy and the ability to find a reason to smile.

She had unknowingly taught me a priceless lesson. Happiness does not depend on what you have; it depends on what you think of what you have. If she could smile in the situation she was in, who was stopping me? Me, myself!

1.When was the writer asked to hand in the report?

_______________________________________

2.How did the writer feel when he came to his desk?

________________________________________

3.What was the girl doing when the writer saw her?

________________________________________

4.What did the write lack compared with the little girl?

5.Do you think the writer will change his attitude towards life?

________________________________________

1.Before Sunday. 2.Disappointed and upset. 3.She was playing with a dog. 4.The spirit to be happy and the ability to find a reason to smile. 5.Yes, he will. 【解析】試題分析:本文是一篇記敘文,主要講述了作者在工作...
