One day, a woman walked into a pet store to buy a bird for her Thanksgiving Day party. The guy said, “We only have one parrot. But I think you do not want it because it can talk…”

The woman said happily, “That’s great. I’ve always wanted a talking bird.”

So the guy said, “Since you are a nice lady, I’ll give it to you as a gift.”

And the lady went home and put the bird on her bed and walked out of the room. But as soon as she walked into the kitchen, the bird started to speak dirty words as loud as it could. The woman walked back into the room thinking, “I can’t have this at my party!” So she took the bird and put it in the fridge.

A few hours later, while the woman was eating, she remembered that her bird was still in the fridge. Quickly, she opened the door and found it was shivering. Then she took out the bird at once. She said to the bird, “I’ll keep you out of there if you don’t use that language again. Do you agree with me?”

The bird nodded and asked, “Can I just ask a quick question?” The lady nodded and said, “Yes, you may.”

After his Master Chef Junior run, 12-year-old Evan Robinson is using his kitchen skills to raise money for Puerto Rico（波多黎各）. The TV show winner wanted to offer help after hurricanes（颶風）hit the country last September.

Building Kids’ Fun

Mickey Mouse, Cinderella, Snow White and Winnie the Pooh...every kid dreams of the day they’ll get to visit these famous characters, and ,most important of all, the magical world of a Disney theme park. And five very lucky kids get to experience all the excitement as often as they’d like in their grandpa’s backyard—no waiting in lines necessary.

A Fullerton, California grandfather was inspired to create something so fun in his own backyard that his grandkids would always want to visit.

Steve Dobbs, 68, said his grandchildren got easily bored with a toy train that he got them to play with in his backyard. Lucky for them, he happened to be an amazing aerospace engineer(航空工程師).

“My younger grandkids are nuts about Disneyland,” Dobbs told The Orange County Register website.” I wanted to give them a reason to come over to my house to spend time with me, and Disneyland is tough to compete with.”

It all started with a “Small World” themed ride and it’s only grown from there over time. The mini theme park is full of the same kind of princesses, castles(城堡), trains and tunnels(隧道) you’ll see at the actual Disneyland park, which happens to be not too far from the Fullerton home.

It’s now complete with attractions inspired by Disney movie favorites such as Finding Nemo and Frozen.

And as the kids got older, their grandpa was sure to provide them with the full theme for a roller coaster(過山車). Dobbs is a professor at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and he asked his students to help him build the ride.

All in all, the theme park has cost him about $6500(43470yuan) but it’s well worth it. “It’s an old man’s hobby,” Dobbs said.

But to his family, it’s so much more than that.

“Dobbsland might be miniature(微型的) in size, but it’s huge in the hearts of our family and friends,” Dobbs’ daughter Cori Linder wrote in a blog for the Babble website. “The best part about Dobbsland? Getting in is free”.

Scientists in Britain and the United States have made a new kind of enzyme(酵素) that eats plastics(塑 料). With its help, plastics can be turned into smaller parts and go away quickly. Scientists believe that, in the future, it could solve the problem of plastic pollution.

The enzyme is able to break down PET, a form of plastic. PET was first made in the 1940s and is now widely used to make plastic bottles. John McGeehan, one of the lead researchers, said, “We’ve made an improved enzyme. It’s better than the naturl one. And we are trying to make more improvements to it.” He went on, “The enzyme is not harmful to humans or animals,and it is friendly to the environment. So we are considering putting it into wider use.”

The team is now trying to make the enzyme break down PET in large quantities(大量的). “We’ll see that the plastic pollution may be stopped with this technology. However,there is still a long way to go,”John McGeehan added.
