     On August 1,2010,Shaolin Temple and its Pagoda Forest were taken as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (聯(lián)合國教科文組織世界遺產(chǎn)地) as part of the “ Historic Monuments of Dengfeng” .

      Shaolin Temple is in Henan Province,China. Founded in the 5th century,it is long famous for its relationship with Chinese martial arts,especially with Shaolin kung fu.

      Where does Shaolin kung fu come from then?

      It’s said that an Indian monk named Bodhidharma (菩提達摩) went to Shaolin Temple in the year 527. When he found the monks there were not very strong,he taught them kung fu.

     In 621,some Shaolin monks helps Tang Dynasty Emperor Li Shimin win a war. So Li made friends with the monks.He gave a lot of land to the temple.After that,Shaolin Temple and Shaolin kung fu became famous all overChina.

     But not all the emperors liked kung fu.Sometime during Qing Dynasty,people could not study Shaolin kung fu.Many monks had to leave the temple.They went to different places and saw many new kinds of kung fu.They studied them and took them back to Shaolin Temple. All of the new ideas changed Shaolin kung fu a lot.

     Today,Shaolin kung fu is still the largest and most famous kind of kung fu inChina. People say ,“ All kung fu comes from Shaolin,but Shaolin kung fu is the best."
