Agatha Christie used to go out at night. She will never forget the night when she met a robber many years ago.
That evening she was invited to a birthday party which lasted till 2 o’clock in the morning. Without company Agatha walked home along the quiet street. Suddenly from the shadow of a dark building, a tall man with a sharp knife in his right hand ran out at her. “Good morning, Lady.” the man said in a low voice, “I don’t think you wish to die here!” “What do you want?” Agatha asked.
“Your earrings. Take them off!” Agatha suddenly had a bright idea. She tried to cover her necklace with the collar(衣領(lǐng)) of her overcoat while she used the other hand to take off both of her earrings, and then she quickly threw them on the ground.
“Take them and let me go.” she said. The robber was uncertain. He saw that the girl didn’t care for the earrings at all, only trying to protect the necklace. He realized the necklace would cost more, so he said, “Give me your necklace.”
“Oh, sir. It’s not worth much. Please let me keep it.”
“Stop talking rubbish. Quick!”

Maybe you are an average student. You probably think you will never be a top student. This is not so necessary , however. Anyone can become a better student if he or she does his or her best. Here are some tips to help you.
Plan your time carefully. When you plan your week, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a plan of your time. First, design your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. Then, decide a good, regular time for studying. Don't forget to set aside enough time for entertainment(娛樂). A weekly plan may not solve all your problems, but it will force you to realize what is happening to your time.
Find a good place to study. Look around the house for a good study area. Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a corner of your room, free of everything but study materials(資料). No games, radios, or televisions! When sitting down to study, pay enough attention to the subject.
Make good use of your time in class. Take advantage of class time to listen to everything the teachers say. Really listening in class means less work later. Be an active listener during your class. Avoid distraction. Listening carefully can help you take better notes, understand the material, and remember it at a later date.
Study regularly. When you get home from school, go over your notes. Review the important points that your teacher mentioned in class. If you know what your teacher is going to teach the next day, to read that material will become more meaningful, and you will remember it longer.
Develop a good attitude about tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. They help you remember your new knowledge. The world won't end if you don't pass a test, so don't be too worried.
There are other methods that might help you with your study. You will probably discover many others after you have tried these.

There is an English saying, “Laughter is the best medicine.” Until recently, few people took the saying seriously. Now, however, doctors have begun to look into laughter and the influences it has on the human body. They have found that laughter can really make people healthier.
Tests were carried out to study the influences of laughter on the body. People watched funny films while doctors checked their heart, blood pressure, breathing and muscles. It was found that laughter has similar influences to physical exercise. It increases blood pressure, the heart beating and breathing. It also works several groups of muscles in the face, the stomach, and even the feet. If laughter exercises the body, it must be beneficial (有益的).
Other tests have shown that laughter appears to be able to reduce pain on the body. In one test doctors produced pain in groups of students who listened to different radio programmes. The reason why laughter can reduce pain seems to be that it helps to produce a kind of chemical in the brain which reduce both stress and pain.
As a result of these discoveries, some doctors in the United States now hold laughter clinics (診所), in which they try to improve their patients’ condition by encouraging them to laugh. Because of good influences, such clinics are very popular with all kinds of patients. Doctors have found that even if their patients do not really feel like laughing, making them smile is enough to produce beneficial influences similar to those caused by laughter.
Since laughter is so effective, try to laugh as much as you can. Believe it will do much good to your health. If you are not used to laughing in front of others, you can also smile as often as possible to others because it can have almost the same influence.
