　　“I tried the phone，but it was dead．I coughed(咳嗽)．A little smoke was coming through the wet coat．So I lay on the floor with Charlie beside me and waited．The minutes seemed like hours．Then I heard the fire engine(引擎)，It was music to my ears．”

　　“I opened the window and shouted．Charlie barked，too．Moments later，we were both safe on the ground．”

　　“So you saved Charlie’s life!”I said．

A ban on smoking in most public places goes into effect(效果) on Sunday in China - home to a third of the world's smokers. That means around 300 million smokers will no longer be allowed to light their cigarettes in the "enclosed public places."
