【答案】Hello, everyone. It’s our duty to protect and improve our school environment. I think each of us can do something.

First, we can do something to make our school more beautiful. We can plant more trees and flowers in our school. We can also start throwing all our rubbish in the bin. But we shouldn’t walk on the grass, pick the flowers or draw on the wall. Besides, we mustn’t burn the rubbish or leaves in the school.

Second, we should stop wasting energy in our school. When we leave the classroom, we should always remember to turn off the lights. We mustn’t leave tap water running or waste any materials in class.

If everyone does one thing for our school, I believe we will turn our school into a better place to study and live in. Thank you for listening!

Do you know how long it’s been since mobile phones were first invented? On April 3, exactly 42 years ago, the first public call ________ (make) from a handheld wireless phone.

Martin Cooper, a US researcher at Motorola, made the call from a corner in New York City in 1973.

People were very surprised at the phone, Cooper remembered. "We caused a great stir," he said.

The phone was a big thing by today’s standards—it weighed almost 1 kilogram and was about 25 cm long. Now, mobile phones fit into the palm(手掌) of your hand and weigh a little more than a lemon.

But back then, it was a huge advancement, especially when compared with the car mobile phones that had been in use since the 1940s.

A car phone weighed more than 13 kilograms and cost thousands of dollars. An owner had to drill() a hole in the car just to fix it.

At that time, Cooper was competing with Joel Engel, the head of research at a rival wireless communications company. So, he made the first call to him.

"I told him, ‘Joel, I’m calling you from a real cellphone’," said Cooper. "I thought I heard gnashing of teeth(咬牙切齒) at the other end, but he was polite."

Since that first call, billions of people around the world have owned mobiles.

Today, they are multifunctional(多功能的) with more and more features(特征), like short text messages, cameras and MP3 players. And people can also use them to get online.

However, Cooper still believes the "original dream" of a true mobile phone call is not yet a reality. That is: being able to use a phone to call anyone from anywhere. Cooper’s dream phone is so small that it fits behind his ear and automatically(自動地) dials out when he thinks about calling someone. And when there is an incoming call, it tickles(使發(fā)癢) instead of ringing.

【題目】All animals produce waste. We call it “waste”, but we all know it can be very useful. Farmers have long used animal and human waste as a fertilizer (肥料). In some parts of the world, animal waste or poop, is collected, dried and burned for cooking and heating. 1

The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding has an unusual way of using animal waste. The pandas in it produce a lot of poop a day. 2 It’s not strange. After all, paper is made from plant fiber (植物纖維), which cannot be digested (消化) and simply goes through the body as waste.

Since pandas eat nothing but bamboo, their waste is perfect paper material. 3 Their stomachs haven’t fully developed for their vegetarian diet, so their bodies make use of just 20% of what they eat. The other 80% comes out as poop: very high in fiber and perfect for paper.

After the poop is collected, it is cleaned, crushed and poured into frames to dry.4 No one can guess where the paper comes from. And because of its good quality (質(zhì)量) as well as the worldwide popularity of the panda, gift products made from the paper sell well.

5 They got the idea from the elephant dung paper (由大象糞便做的紙) made at the Elephant Conservation Center in Chiang Mai, Thailand. And Creative Paper Wales in the UK sells paper gifts made from sheep waste.
